Hello everyone,
i am due to start chemo soon and all my friends that have had it suggest I have a PICC line inserted. They all had presurgery chemo whereas I am adjunctive. I have had an axillary dissection on my left arm, shoulder isn’t 100% yet. It would have to go in my right dominant arm, I would only be having 6 cycles of FEC-T, three weekly apart. Is it worth the hassle of having a line in for just 6 sessions?? What is it like having it in your dominant arm?
Any advice gratefully received. I am off today to get booked in for treatment.
Thanks K
Hi Kaey. I had a like put in for 3 sessions. The hospital will decide what lube is best so it may not be a PICC. I've got a Groshong line in and wished I had done it at the start. Getting chemo through and bloods done is a breeze. Take care and I wish you luck x
Predictive text sorry. "Line" not lube or like! X
Thanks Forrest
I saw the consultant today, he says try the first without and get them to put it in for the second. My hesitation is just my left arm isn’t right yet after my surgery so maybe in a few more weeks it will be fine.
See how you go. With the groshong it goes from yr collar bone to yr chest so nowhere near yr arm or have to worry about dominant side etc. I forget its there. Good luck.
Hi they will not put a line in the arm that you have had surgery on I had my surgery on my left side so had to have my picc line in my right arm you soon get used to it so much easier for bloods also if you need CT or scans hope all goes well with whatever is decided regards Belinda xx
