Tamoxifen at the same time as another cancer treatment?

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience of getting used to Tamoxifen while on another treatment too?

I started Tamoxiden 2 months ago after having 1B breast cancer. I'm finished all my surgeries and radiotheraphy. When I started Tamoxifen,  was already taking Targeted TKI Therapy (Dabrafenib/Trametanib) for 3A skin melanoma that causes me fatigue and headaches. I avoid activity that raises my heart rate but go for short walks and do yoga once a week.

Now, I feel tired - almost sedated most of the time. Is this the Tamoxifen on top of the Targeted Therapy? I also feel wierd sometimes - bits of insomnia, sad mood, feeling like 'Just everyone go away! I'm too tired for you!' (Literally, there is no-one on my case so this doesn't make sense.)

Is this what Tamoxifen is like all the time? I've another 4 years 10 months to go! Luckily, I only have another 3 months of the Targeted Therapy. I just wondered if anyone else out there was having a double whammy of Tamoxifen + something else. Do I just have to wait  - to quote Phil Collins? Will the Tamoxifen sedation wear off?

Many thanks,

Dots

  • Hi Dots welcome to the forum. I  am wondering if your query really needs a more medically based answer as this could be due to interactions between the drugs as this is how it is making you feel.

Based on that I wonder if you might like to post in the ask a nurse section of the site as they could better answer your query for you I think.  I have inserted the link for that thread below and you need only click on this and re-post on  that thread.

  • Gail,

Thanks very much for your reply. Yes, it does sound like interactions between the drugs. I have posted it on the Ask a Nurse site.

    Many thanks,
