Hi. I'm due to start radiotherapy soon. 5 day course. Just wondering what to expect. How tired do people get. Is the sunburn side effect common? Does it settle down quickly? Thanks in advance
Hello, I’m 2 weeks post radiotherapy. Skipped chemotherapy so had 5 days to whole breast and 5 days boost. The actual treatment is fine and lasts minutes, not painful but I am just a bit sore. You will attend a planning meeting 2 weeks before treatment when you can practice deep breathing and have 3 tiny markers out on your skin to help get you in the right position. Different hospitals will advice you on cream to use and probably no deodorant or harsh shower gels. My trust advised against any cream, but I used aveeno and my skin has held up well. I choose not to wear a bra, cotton vest only and let as much air get to my skin as possible. I was not really too tired during treatment and drive myself everyday, but have been increasingly more fatigued this last few days. They say it peaks around 10-14 days post treatment, but everyone is different and some ladies don’t feel any different, whilst others are tired from day 1. I decided to take some time off work 6 weeks in total so I’m able to rest and exercise everyday. Good luck, hope it goes well.
