Can anyone tell me if they find cancer in the nodes at the time of surgery, do they remove them all at the time or is it another operation?

  • Hi

It depends on your hospital - my hospital (Sheffield ) they test whilst you are still under and remove if they come back positive , but they do ask you if you are okay with that before your op. Some hospitals don’t have that testing facility on site so need to send off for testing.

My mum had 6 nodes removed 4 of which tested positive, she’s seeing oncologist tomorrow and the plan was chemo then further surgery to remove auxiliary nodes after chemo.  Will know final plan tomorrow when all the results are in
