Hi, I feel awkward posting here as so many people have had much bigger issues with breast cance, but I'm hoping someone on here has had a similar experience to me.  I was told in March that I very probably had invasive lobular cancer, and was sent for an MRI scan.  The MRI showed an 8x19mm tumour.  My oncoplastic surgeon detailed the lumpectomy, uplift and nipple replacement, and the identical surgery she would do to the healthy breast to give me a matching pair.  They then took 5 core needle biopsies to confirm that the tumour was receptive to estrogen and/or progesterone so they could prescribe the right hormone treatment post radiation.

When I went back in April for the biopsy results, I was told the tumour is a non-mass-like enhancement and is not malignant.  However, they want me to go back every 2-3 months to see whether or not anything is changing.  So they haven't signed me off as something is in the breast that ought not to be there, but on the other hand they aren't going to whip it out.

Has anyone else had anything like this?

  • Hi

That's great news that the mass turned out to be a benign non-mass-like enhancement (NMLE).

I have to see my consultant every 3 months for check-ups after having an operation to remove a malignant melanoma so I know how stressful this can be.

I typed 'non-mass-like enhancement' into the group's search bar to see if anyone else had posted about this before but drew a blank I'm afraid. However, replying to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily spotted by anyone who has been diagnosed with the same but just not posted about it.

It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
