Hi and sorry, I just feel really angry at my hospital. I was diagnosed with grade 3, Her2+ breast cancer 7cm x 6cm at the start of April, and the consultant said I need to start chemo 2 weeks later. Well, it's 4 weeks now and I'm starting next week. So I'm really annoyed that it's delayed by 2 weeks as it's painful and it feels like it's growing really fast, plus so far, I've had to book in all the tests they said I needed, like a echocardiogram, MRI's on my liver, breasts etc. The nurses along the way have said, oh no, we can't book in your chemo until you've had these tests, yet they didn't book in the tests so I had to. Shouldn't they be doing it? Or at least warning me that I had to do it.
So now I have a liver MRI with contrast the day before my kidney tests, which is the day before I start chemo. I've had to book these so no doctor has been involved to tell me if this is safe. Also, no date for the breast MRI even though I was told it needed to be done before chemo started in order to track whether the chemo was working.
I was told my hair would fall out after the first chemo and that they would book an appointment for having a wig fitted, but guess what, nothing.
I'm so angry.
Sorry. I just feel like I have enough to deal with, but adding this anxiety on top is not great.
Hi
No wonder you are angry, they don't seem to be looking after you very well at all! I've got no experience of things during the covid outbreak as I was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago.
However, this doesn't seem AT ALL right! Can you get in touch with Pals for your local hospital and get them on case?
Sorry I can't help much more than this, but hopefully this team may be able to support you much better. You could also try giving Macmillan a call and ask them their advice as to how to get your team to actually be looking after you!
Like you say, you're under enough pressure and worry at the moment without the team who are meant to be caring for you making it worse.
Kindest wishes, Lesley x
Hi 50inCambridge
i am so sorry to read this post and very upset for you I am newly diagnosed and waiting for a treatment plan so I don’t have the wealth of experience that others do There must be someone that can help and advice you though seeing as your hospital isn’t Do get in touch with the Macmillan help line as I am sure they will be helpful Just want you to know that there is always someone here for you to unload your feelings etc do take care and I hope all goes well for you x
Wow that sounds so wrong. I go diagnosed the beginning of September oncologist sorted all my appointments out like M.R. I , Heart check (MUGA) and bloods so by the beginning of October I was starting my chemo, I then see her 2 days before every chemo to check on how I am doing. As to hair falling out I was offered the cold cap to try and keep my hair but was ok about losing it and used the voucher to buy a nice wig and am now embracing my short hair . I would definitely chase your oncologist and breast nurse to see what is happening. Sorry I can't help more but I would also advise giving the Macmillan team a call
