Lump in reconstructed breast

Hi all

3 years ago I had a MX and immediate DIEP, I have been really pleased with the result. There has always been a hard lump in the lower part of the reconstructed breast which hasn’t changed, I understand this is just because of the type of tissue. A few days ago I noticed a new hard lump at the side, the two lumps have space in between them.

I went for routine MMG yesterday and mentioned it, they suggested ringing breast care nurse which I will do today.

Has anyone else had new lumps in reconstructed breast? I know I shouldn't worry as there is no breast tissue there but even so...

  • Hi

How did you get on when you spoke to your BCN the other day?

I don't have any experience of this to share with you but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. This is probably because this is such a busy group posts can fall off the first page before someone with a similar experience has seen them. Replying to you will 'bump' the post back to the top of the discussions list.

    Thanks Latchbrook.
I had a good chat about it with the BCN, she is arranging for me to have an ultrasound, I’m hoping to get news of an appointment early next week.
I will be glad to get it checked out!

  • I'm glad you were able to have a good chat with your BCN .

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you

    Fingers crossed

Hi, I went for the ultrasound on Monday afternoon. The lump I had found he thought looked OK, fat necrosis. However he saw something else on the scan in a different area of my reconstructed boob which he was a bit concerned about, so took 2 biopsies.
Now waiting for a follow up appt for results...

  • Hi

I'm glad to hear that the area you were concerned about is okay but sorry that you still have a wait for the results of a couple of biopsies he took.

Will continue to keep my fingers crossed x

I have an appt later today for the biopsy result, however the lovely BCN phoned me yesterday to reassure me everything is OK, it is another area of fat necrosis. I am so relieved, I didn’t realise how anxious I had been feeling about it.

    Thanks Latchbrook for being there!

  • Oh, that's great news

A couple of years ago I had to have another lesion removed from my arm, the same one that I'd had a melanoma on, Although my consultant didn't think it was anything to worry about and I wasn't that worried it was still such a relief to be told that it really was nothing so I completely understand how you feel.

I hope you can have a little celebration Champagne

I am at my year mark for my reconstruction and I’m noticing little lumps in my breast,  I will be requesting a ultrasound or some type of follow up soon.  Not sure how I feel at this point

I wonder if these lumps we feel are just the fat tissue scars, if that makes any sense! Still need a follow up to ease my mind.

  • It could be just scar tissue after the operation but it's best to get it checked out.
