Hi everyone. I've been getting blisters and burning sensation on one area of the roof of my mouth and gums throughout my chemo (half way through now). Just switched from EC to taxol and while the blisters aren't as severe this time, they are still quite sore. I haven't had any spicy food, chocolate, caffine, or fizzy drinks for almost 3 months, use a soft toothbrush, non fluoride toothpaste, rinse with bicarb of soda in warm water every 2-3hours... Nothing seems to make the blisters go away!
Any tips would be very gratefully received. Thanks in advance x
Hi BJM when I was on EC I had ulcers each cycle my unit gave me a mouthwash to help deter/ soothe them .Also it was suggested I use Bonjela which did work quite well . Hopefully it will improve for you .
good luck with the rest of your treatment
Ooo! How could I have forgotten oral thrush Bramble22 seems so long ago now doesn't it . How are you doing I've finished herceptin now and have last heart scan on Friday then continue with Bisphosonate til Nov 22
Hi Margaret, doing ok thanks! Just had my first year check up and mammogram on remaining boob all clear, so good news!! I’ve to have Zoledronic Acid infusions every 6 months for 5 years...4 now!!
You will be glad to finish herceptin, another thing out the way.
Yes oral thrush was not pleasant but the difference when they realised what it was and dealt with it was amazing!!
Take care! x
Hi!
Try drinking pineapple juice or eating pineapple and dry mouth pastilles which seemed to help clear my tongue And inflamed mouth eg Salivix Plus and also a toothpaste called Biotene. My oncologist kept recommending manuka honey but I don’t like honey so didn’t try it. He said to coat your tongue and mouth on it or suck on a spoon of it. Good luck!
Thanks to everyone for all the tips. Don't think it's oral thrush as I had that after my first treatment and it treated and went away... This feels different. Just blistering that comes and goes. But I'll definitely try all suggestions... Luckily, I love honey, so that'll be the first. And Bonjela.. This was one of my nan's secret weapons when we were kids. Along with bread poultice, flat 7-up and sudocrem... Nothing the world could throw at you could stand up to these wonders :)
