Hi,
Are there any horse rides out there that have had a SMX and immediate DIEP? How long did it take to get back in the saddle and back to yard duties?
Susie x
Hiya, I had single masectomy on 6th Jan. Didnt have immediate DIEP. I don't ride myself but we own ponies. I did some basic grooming and bringing them in from the field the following week. Just avoided the crazy ponies as didn't want to have to move too quickly if they went nuts and banged myself. The beginning of this week I did do some yard duties but again didn't push it and didn't over fill the shovel like I would normally do to finish quicker. I found it therapeutic to be back with them and get a bit of normality. Your body will tell you what it can manage x
Hi Sounds like you are getting on really well after your op, well done you I guess taking it really slowly as you say is the best way forward. Just being out there with the horses is the best medicine
ever!
Take care Susie x
Hey there Susie, Ricecrispie
Whilst I've never been sufficiently coordinated to be able to do anything that walk with horse I'm just short of 8 weeks post DIEP and have been out gentle jogging this week (interval 'training' with walking), worse 2 sports bra's and chest high support pants and was just fine. Riding bike is fine but that's not as high impact as horse riding.
Often the advice is 12 weeks but we're all different (and very impatient, or reckless according to the boyfriend!, in my case).
Not sure if that helps at all?
Sam X
Hi Sam Yorkshire_defector
You do make me laugh It’s great to hear you’re doing so well and on your bike so quickly, an inspiration!

How does your tummy feel? Using my core to stay upright and on the horse is a challenge sometimes so after the surgery it could be amusing, not to mention Bob who sees monsters in the hedges and alligators in the puddles on occasions and we end up doing beautiful ballet moves down the road
Time will tell I’m guessing, meanwhile Bob is chilling in the field and looking more like a hippo every day
Been really struggling with all this, thanks for cheering me up.

Ha! Ricecrispie Susie
Is Bob really muddy or does he have unusual colouring...that lesser know muddy dapple look I suspect. Makes sense if he's gone all hippo-rogue! Bob will be all Fantasia soon (hippos doing ballet)- you might want to show it to him.
My stomach does feel tight generally, like some really strong masking tape has been put just above pubis and is being pulled upwards...not uncomfortable just odd I reckon. I can use core OK on bike to stay upright but that's somewhat different to a horse ( nothing scares my bike!), I've started doing some gentle abs exercises which may be helping but taking it easy there as can 'feel' the abs (or lack of abs), particularly when I lie down on the floor...from sitting to getting horizontal is something to get used to!
Glad to be of service Susie - you know where I am (at home usually, just for a change!!).

This is what he should look like!
I don’t think I’ll let him watch Fantasia, he knows enough moves without giving him any more ideas
Its good to know what to expect re the stomach and abs, oh I’m so looking forward to looking like a beached whale trying to get up and laying down!
Thanks again, happy ♀️, Tour de France
here you come!

Wow how do you keep him that clean lol my 10 year old rides and we have a grey sec A and chestnut B. With no shows the grey has been left to do what he wants and probably is now allergy to water and shampoo lol
Bob loves a bath in diamond white shampoo when the weather is warm enough!
He looks like a hippo now though! X
Mmm Ricecrispie I see what you mean re the hippo...Bob is clearly living his best life judging by the before & after pics! He is a very handsome horse in his Sunday best though.
If it makes you feel any better I am due for annual telling off at the vets for having 2 fatty-bum-bum cats who probably get fed at several houses regularly and unlike most cats don't graze but inhale in one breath whatever is given to them.
Hope you're feeling a bit more chipper today X
