Hello all, I had grade 3 breast cancer 5 years ago with chemo therapy surgery radiotherapy etc.

I didn't gain any weight on treatment but rather lost weight as i felt very ill on it. Following the treatment however and tamoxifen i have gained around 5 kgs.. despite being incredibly active exercise 5 days a week and eating a very healthy whole foods plant based diet.  i feel so annoyed about it and i don't know what to do - i stopped tamoxifen now as im fed up..

Has anyone been through this and have you managed to lose the weight? I feel desperate ..

Grateful for all your experiences and input.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

Gaining weight while being active and eating well must be tremendously demoralising and it's perhaps natural to presume that it's a side effect of the tamoxifen that you're taking. I've found this information from Macmillan on the drug's side effects but weight gain isn't something that's mentioned. I presume you spoke to your BCNS about this when you told her you were going to stop taking tamoxifen. Was she able to help at all?
