Hi all,
I am curious to see if anyone has looked into/doing the macrobiotic diet or looked into an oncology nutritionist since being diagnosed?
I am looking at a complete lifestyle change now that I have been diagnosed with TNBC as I am totally aware that despite the outcome of my treatment, cancer is now going to be part of my life going forward so, I want to make sure that I am doing everything in my power to be healthy + kick it in the face
Any thoughts/advice/suggestions greatly welcomed as always!
Stay safe gang x
Hi , interesting thread, I’m sure it’ll spark some informative responses. I haven’t looked at the macrobiotic diet or consulted anyone but I’m very interested in lifestyle changes to help prevent recurrence.
In my case the cancer was oestrogen receptive so I’ve looked at some stuff regarding foods that may be beneficial and others that might not. I was also hoping to go to the Penny Brohn Centre in Bristol after finally retiring in August of last year, but with Covid issues I think I’d have to look at an online consultation. You may know of it already but I’ve copied the link below:
I’m vegetarian anyway but have greatly reduced processed stuff and increased fibre and fruit/ veg. Have also virtually cut out sugar and I’m amazed how the craving has gone.
I’m also a big fan of walking as this has been my sanity saver over the past couple of years!
Hope others pop in soon and I’ll be following this thread with interest! HFxx
Thanks HappyFeet1
I hadn't heard of Penny Brohn but will definitely have a look this weekend :) The macrobiotic is tough - basically, full-on Asian which I am not sure I can do longterm + you literally eat very little fat or protein which I am not sure is great when doing chemo etc. I have gone from 60kg to 53.8kg in 10 days + I am hungry or should I say hangry, ALL the time! I am also trying to keep up my 3x weekly 5km run throughout treatment as I can't seem to so much yoga with the picc line frustratingly so I need fuel! I miss flavour!
I have discovered frozen grapes which are amazing if you want something sweet :)
Hopefully, we will get some more input + ideas to share

Hi, I’ve used Penny Brohn a lot, and done some of their Zoom sessions on line during the last 10 months. I can thoroughly recommend them. I’ve not done any of the nutrition sessions, but they do look interesting, and they serve lovely vegetarian lunches in the dining room. When you can get to go there do go round the gardens, they’re lovely, lots of beautiful huge trees. They’re about a 25 minute drive from where I live, and occasionally I’ve gone up just to go round the gardens, or go to the library, it’s a lovely peaceful place.
Hi kateandbiz, sounds like Penny Brohn is my kind of place for sure! I am nowhere near Bristol so I won’t be able to go there any time soon but will look at the virtual sessions. I do Nordic walking zoom exercise sessions several times a week through my local group and also mindfulness through the Maggie’s centre at Addenbrookes. If we get back to how it was last summer I will definitely plan a visit to Penny Brohn, fingers crossed that we can return sometime to that level of freedom. HFxx
