Hi,
My wife has just been offered the Posnoc trial - given 24 hours to decide.
Does anyone have any experience or thoughts - we have watched all the Posnoc official videos and read all the
information that we have been given but any insights would be good.
Also with the surgery any experience of what happens with the surgery with the axillary lymph node clearance.
Thank you x
I didn't do it as I had 1 positive node but it was 6mm and didn't show as positive on the ultrasound. I wanted to know for sure about the rest of them as I was worried that chemo (which I had with only about 4% gain due to ER+ responding less well to chemo and size/grade of tumour) wouldn't kill everything, and the hormone blockers wouldn't either. In the end I had level 3 clearance and nothing was found - they were all clear. That was last May, and the chemo delayed healing a little, but I have pretty much full movement with no lymphodema that I'm aware of and only a little cording which happened during the time I was having chemo. I have regained feeling under my arm apart from a tiny area near my elbow (they move the nerves to get to the higher levels), but it is stiff for the first week or two and stings more than the breast surgery. They give you exercises to do, and there will be a drain for a few days probably. If your wife decides that she wants the surgery the little heart shaped cushions given in hospital are really helpful under the arm
Has your wife had her initial surgery and sentinel nodes checked? Do you know the size/grade/type of the cancer and how many nodes are affected?
Thank you for taking the time to really Londonmumof2 it’s been a blur past few hours...
yes initial surgery on the grade 1 stage 1 which they think they have a good margin on but unfortunately found non invasive further round the breast so going back in to see if they can get a good margin.
2 of 6 lymph’s came back with something- both the invasive and the lymph’s surprised the surgeon.
I felt there was a lot of information to take in and my head is all over the place.
one of my wife’s main concerns is the quality of life she is very active playing sport etc and is relatively young and active.

Is she haviig an MRI on the area to double check? It's bad luck that the nodes came back with something on such a small, low- grade lump, which is probably why the surgeon was surprised!
I was told that there is a risk with radiotherapy on the nodes as well, and that it's still possible (though less likely) to have lymphedema. The cording can be dealt with through physio, but the movement in the arm varies between women. I was told I had level 3 clearance, which a lots of surgeons don't do (I thought I'd have level 2!), as they need to go past nerves and muscles to get there, and he did say that I'd good mobility afterwards. He said that clearance can affect the shoulder, though he hadn't had that happen. I think that the chemo affected my healing, as that's when I felt everything tighten and cording appeared, but it sounds like your wife won't have chemo?
Good luck either way, and let us know how it goes:)
