Chemo induced menopause - help please!

Hi all,

Could anyone please offer me some reassurance regarding the symptoms of chemo induced menopause.  I was 46 when diagnosed with BC and have not had a period since my first chemo cycle in January this year.  Since finishing radiotherapy, I am suffering badly with all over body aches and stiffness, especially in my back, neck, shoulders, finger and toes.

Two oncologists have told me that this is likely due to lack of oestrogen in my body.  The discomfort is worse when sitting and lying down and does ease off slightly when I exercise.

Has anyone else experienced this since finishing treatment please?  How long did the aches last for and what, if anything, helped to ease the pain?

Many thanks!Slight smile

  • Hi Flossie,,

As you are triple negative there are lots of options available to help. Women with ER+ breast cancer on hormone blockers often use loratadine (claratyn), vitamin D, magnesium, tart cherry and sometimes turmeric (though the jury is out on if it's anti- cancer benefits outweigh its oestrogenic ones). I found it helped though but have stopped taking it due to the uncertainty.  You could also safely try the plant- based oestrogens like soya in tofu and mince/ burgers etc. Do some research on that.  Exercise really helps,  and some women find acupuncture does.  It's really trial and error. It's also possible that you body will start making oestrogen again.  I know a few women who have suddenly had a period after more than a year! X
