I was diagnosed on 9th September 2020 with grade 3, 2.5cm oestrogen positive tumour which has spread to my lymph nodes.  On here it a seems that a lot of people have had there operations before the chemo.  I am currently on my 3rd round of EC chemo, then will have 12 rounds of plactexal then surgery, radiation and then tamoxifen for 5 years so am a little worried if it has been done the right way round.  Has anybody else had there treatment before there surgery? Any reassurance will be great.

Hi. I was diagnosed august last year. I had 4 rounds of 3 weekly EC. Then I had weekly pacitaxol for 12 weeks and carboplatin on top every 3 weeks. I then had a left mastectomy. Then on herceptin and zometa. Got another mastectomy next week. Then final herceptin and 2nd zometa on the 8th December. A long road but will be glad when it’s over. It depends on the tumour types depends on what way round they do it. Hope ur ok xxx

Thanks for your message Fiona.  It has made me feel a little better.  Just all such a worrying time.  Hope all goes well with the rest of the treatment xxx

  • Hi Jojoh69

i can’t comment in general, but in my case, I had surgery first as my HER status is negative. During surgery I had my lymph nodes biopsy and 2 were positive, so I am having EC chemo to mop up any cells which may of escaped my lymph nodes. If my Lymph nodes were clear, I would have just had radiotherapy.

    xx

  • Hi Jojoh69

I was diagnosed 18th September 20 & I’m currently having chemo prior to surgery.  Stage 2-3. I’m HER2 & ER positive with a 5-6cm lump. Given my small breast size I was told that the chemo before treatment is to stop the HER2 in it’s tracks and reduce the lump to give enough clear margins to operate.
After surgery I’ll be in on EC for mop up!

Hope that helps a little xx

  • Hi

I have a similar diagnosis/treatment to you and like you, and many others, had neoadjuvant chemotherapy (chemo pre surgery) to stop aggressive cancer in its tracks - have a look at my profile.  Please don't be worried at all re the process, rest assured you're in good hands.

And I am fine & dandy following all short-term treatments (despite possible Cv19, awaiting test results!) and am hopefully having DIEP reconstruction Dec.

My secret? Being daft & staying positive.
