Hi so after chemo and radiation i know start Zometa infusions 6monthly for 3 yrs for bone treatment.
does anyone have experience of this please
Hi Kimbo56
I off for no 3 zoledronic infusion tomorrow . They only take about fifteen minutes so maybe in unit for about 30 mins in total . Only side effect I've notice is a bit fluey and achy for couple days ,but remember we're all different in our reactions . As far as I'm aware bisphosonate are not known for Se . Most people get concerned about dental treatment but I was informed leave six week window either side of treatment the ok .
Concerns are mainly around extractions if Necessary You talk to dentist .
hope it all goes ok
Thank you Margaret.
do you feel fluey the next day or a few days later? I’ve just returned to work so would just like an idea of what I could possibly expect
hope today goes well for you
Kim
Hi Kim
My unit got my appointment wrong so no infusion today it's now end of the month . All I can tell you is the SE are so mild you might have to look for them . We're all different but for me and others I know it's just a minor feeling of slightly off for one or two day . Nothing at all like chemo SE .
Im older so no work problems to compare and possibly age related SE . One thing for certain there were no dire warnings from Onco about infusions .
take care let us know how you get on
Thank you so much it’s very reassuring.
it’s not till 23/11 so I have a couple of weeks
much appreciated

Sorry but zometa was my worst treatment. Had the infusion. Went to bed that night feeling fine. Woke up in the middle of the night and felt like I had been hit but a bus that then reversed over me. Cold. Passed out. Sick. Didn’t eat for a few days. Had a hot bath with magnesium. I know the next one to take a basin, extra blanket, pain killers and fluids to bed next time. It did pass though after a week. I’m not telling u this to worry, as u might be like the other lady and ur fine. Just wanted u to be prepared but we are all different xxxx
Thank you for your reply.
I am sorry to hear that you had to so bad, my nurse says the first one is always the worse for reasons they can’t explain so I hope that is true in your case.
I have informed work that I could be off a few days.
It’s such a shame as after all the treatment I was finally feeling better and ready to continue my life and now these treatments have come along.
l hope your next one is easier, please let me know
take care

My partner had her 1st one in July and due 2nd one in January...she went to bed feeling ok...woke the next day feeling terrible..was bed bound for a full 7 days and every bone ached and felt worse than chemo sessions so I've booked time off with her to look after her as she couldn't do a thing even crawled to toilet on all fours as couldn't even stand.
I had mastectomy, chemo then radiation and then started with 4 rounds of Zometa with breast reconstruction somewhere along the way. I had absolutely no side-effects from having the Zometa infusions and was also never led to believe I possibly could so it would have been a right unpleasant surprise if I had. The worst part for me - and even then not a big deal - is that I am difficult to (can't remember the correct word! - cannulate?) stick a needle into. Honestly, for me at least, it was a piece of cake. It doesn't take overly long although up to an hour as they have to flush through etc. I went to my appointments alone on the bus and returned home alone on the bus and felt fine to eat straight away.
The only worry I have is re dental work. I have a tooth which is sheared off near enough in line with the gum. Luckily it's not painful but there is nothing the dentist can do to build it up. The dentist doesn't want to do the extraction and the specialist place she referred me on to won't do it so the dentist has said that it would have to be a hospital job when and if it comes to it (meaning if the root I decays). I'm sure the reason for 'passing me on' is because nobody wants to be held responsible should I get necrosis of the jaw. The Zometa drug stays in your system for a long time I believe so the further away I can get from my last infusion the better. Certainly it seems that certain cosmetic dental procedures are entirely out of the question.
Anyway, I hope you find the Zometa infusions as easy as I did.
I had the infusions over 2 years. First one made my leg and hip bones ache for a few days but the more I moved the easier it was. So just walking around the Office helped. After that first one no SE at all. I've also had problem free tooth extractions - My dentist is always a bit cautious though and referred me to hospital for one which was very quick with no problems.
I have had 3 infusions now....no issues....maybe a bit tired for a day. Good luck!
