Hi I’m new to this forum . I’m very had endometrial cancer 13 years ago and breast cancer 18 months ago with surgery and Radiotherapy.
Both cancers were early and I’ve felt lucky and plucked up the courage to face prolapse surgery last November . Have recovered well and looking forward to a better year , signed up for Race for Life along with my husband and 2 daughters .
Then Tuesday just got a sudden large area of redness appeared on the breast where I had the surgery. No pain , itchiness or swelling . Had a biopsy on Thursday - great response from Breast Clinic .
yesterday looked at NHS app and saw a letter from Consultant to GP saying biopsy was to rule out angiosarcoma . Read stuff about it and now really worried as it sounds very serious . So waiting for results and also to have mammogram and ultrasound .
Does anyone else know about this condition , or have had severe skin changes so late after Radiotherapy ? I can’t be the only one !
Hi, I had chemotherapy then radiotherapy, very numb around surgery scar, then a year later my breast became hard and sore with puckered skin, ( like an orange), had a scan, nothing there, was told its because of the radiotherapy , had a mammogram and all clear, hopefully you will be fine, i know its hard but try not to worry ,
Thankyou so much for replying . I’m glad your results were all clear and you can get on with your life .
just seeing the words in black and white on the letter has set me back as I’d never heard of angiosarcoma . It’s aggressive and not a good prognosis from what I’ve read .
ive cried a lot as I’m not ready to leave my girls yet and they’re both so strong about it . Trying to keep positive and just wait for the results and still doing 3 km walk every day in preparation for Race for Life .
thanks again
Hi Phyllis A , welcome to the forum, sorry you find yourself here with this horrible further worry. I had a large patch of red skin appear on my treated breast, 14 months after surgery, 11 months after radiotherapy. It seemed to just appear overnight. I went to my GP in a total panic - I thought it could be inflammatory breast cancer. But he thought it was likely a skin infection and treated it straight away with antibiotics. I have lympheodema in that breast (which is a lesser known possible side effect of rads) and that can make it susceptible to cellulitis. The antibiotics worked and the redness gradually faded. I was also referred back to the breast clinic but by the time I had my appointment it was pretty much gone so no further treatment or investigations were needed.
I hope you get the biopsy results very soon and that it’s just one of these horrible ‘blips’ along the way. I also self referred back to the breast clinic a couple of years after surgery as I had some nipple discharge. I had a mammogram and ultrasound but nothing was found and it didn’t happen again. Another big panic and it remains unexplained but apparently all ok. Sending love and a big virtual hug, HFxx
Thankyou so much for your reply . I’m glad your problems were resolved and hope you continue to be in good health .
yes it was the suddenness that really threw me and no other symptoms . I haven’t been offered antibiotics only the biopsy . The consultant said honestly that he didnt know what is was . He did say it was not inflammatory breast cancer .
Hopefully the results will be nothing to worry about . I’m sleeping fairly well and gave good family support .
thankyou again for your kind words
