Hello - just a quick one!!!
I finished chemo 8 weeks ago, I managed to keep a lot of my hair by using the cold cap, it's a lot thinner but not too noticeable, it does still seem to be slightly shedding but i think to a point it probably did before chemo. Anyway any advice on how long to leave it before I can have highlights done? Very keen to have a bit of a revamp.
Thanks
Xx
Hello there Bell
Great that you had finished chemo. When I had chemo I lost all my hair. When it started coming back my colour had changed and I was desperate for hairdresser to colour. In Scotland it was at least 6 months before my hairdresser would do colour. She did trim and style it meantime to make the most of what was there. I visited my niece in France. There the hairdresser said no chemo until a year had passed after chemo. So there seems to be variation depending where you are.
Hi, I was told a year by a hairdresser - she said the chemo drugs can stay in your system for a long time and make your hair weak and thin, so a year to let it become stronger and can take it. Who knows though really. Enjoy the revamp whenever you choose to do it!
Don't get me wrong I am really pleased I managed to keep my hair and I know in the scale of it all highlights is not up there but waiting one year - gosh my dark roots with blonde hair are going to be comical
I lost all my hair and the hospital told me 6 months, I asked why, was it that the dye was a danger to my health. They said no, just that the hair was fragile and may be damaged but nothing medical. I spoke to a colourist at the salon and she said that’s true for any peroxide based colours but a semi permanent colour with no peroxide would be ok as my grow back was slow but full and a non peroxide colour wouldn’t irritate by scalp. I now have semi permanent colour every 6 weeks, it’s great, no hair damage and I first coloured it 4 months after treatment to get it established and long enough, I’ve had no problems x
