Hi, I am new to the group. I recently had a breast lumpectomy for triple negative breast cancer. Today I start my first chemotherapy. I struggle asking for help but here goes. What type of head wear is best after hair loss and where do I buy it from. Some of the scarves are quite expensive. I am not very good with fashion and self image. I am in my 60s and sourcing the best head gear is causing anxiety. Any advice?
Hi Cowsrus, I am 62 and bought my headwear from an online site called annabandana. I found their hats and headbands really comfortable and bought a variety of different colours. I also purchased a couple of wigs from a local shop, who secialise in wigs for cancer patients. They were really great in the shop and put me at ease straight away. Hope all goes well today with your first treatment. Xx
Hi
Like you my hair was one of many anxieties. Does your hospital run any workshops to help with this? Guy's hospital does. The charity "Cancer Hair care " is also very helpful. They have u-tube videos etc. Is there a "Maggies" unit near you.
They offer lots of advice both by telephone and face to face.
Ask your BCN for advice about local services.
There is so much out there and it is surprising what you learn.
I used the cold cap and kept a lot of my hair. I had a wig on the NHS but never used it.
All the best
Ricki
