I’ve been diagnosed with grade 2 lobular breast cancer. It’s also in my lymph so I had a ct scan today. Now need to wait 2 weeks to confirm if it’s jn the breast only. I’ve already waited 5 weeks from mammogram recall to c scan and now need to wait another 2. Is this usual timeframe? The consultant says it’s with their agreed times, but to wait a further 2 weeks feels so incredibly hard. I feel well in myself apart from bc

  • I'm sorry you find yourself waiting, it's really hard.

I had mammogram 2023 (2nd ever) and was recalled.

The worst times I found are the ones where you are waiting on results and further information.

I was initially diagnosed with 1 tumour HER 2-, however after having MRI they found another 2 tumours one of which unfortunately was HER+ and necessitated the need for chemotherapy.

On to mastectomy and cancer found in 2 lymph nodes as 'micromets'.

Finished treatments earlier this year although still on hormone treatments.

As others have often said, the worst part is the waiting and not knowing.

I know exactly how you're feeling you are not alone and it's a horrible time.

Taking one day at a time really helped me.

I wish I could take your suffering from you xx

  • Thank you for replying and you’ve done so well on your treatment journey. I’ve had a lovely chat with MacMillan this afternoon. I’ve decided to stay off Google and concentrate on the facts rather than the what ifs. Worrying isn’t going to change anjthhng and just make me feel worse. So I’m going to try this new approach. I’m also going to try and speak to some one on the phone or face to face each day rather than texting as it really helps and I feel more supported

  • Hi sorry your on this forum but it is really useful I have found. Your diagnosis sounds similar to mine and I got diagnosed October 3rd. I had mastectomy 19th dec and awaiting to find out if lymph nodes were clear or not. It does seem to be ages between each result I’ve found that the hardest part of this whole ride so far. Stay strong they are the experts and seem to know what they are on about….. I hope anyway. Sending you a hug x

  • Hi there, I'm really glad you've found the Macmillan team and chatted to them, they are really great, aren’t they?   Waiting is THE most difficult for everyone and I know I found it best to keep super busy to distract myself.  I hope you get your results and a treatment plan soon. Best wishes

  • Thank you. In this day and age it seems so cruel to have to wait for so long. A month ago I got told they 99% were sure it was bc at mammogram recall, and since then I’ve had it confirmed and had ct scan. Now waiting again. No one should have to wait over a month for a proper full diagnosis inc scans.

  • Oh Tulip22, that really is a lot of waiting and it is the waiting that is the worst part.  I was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer in May 2020, it had spread to my lymph nodes but when they were removed it turned out that it was only in one of the nodes.  I discovered mine by finding a lump but have been very affected by cancer with both my parents so I was quite pushy with getting in for the scans.  For me it was only 3 weeks from finding a lump to having surgery and that seemed like a lifetime.  Part of it can just be pure timing, the cancer teams usually meet once a week to discuss cases before they contact you to let you know their findings so for example if you have a scan on a Thursday and they have their meeting on a Friday, they won't have the results in time to discuss and therefore they won't be discussed until the following Friday.  It might not be the same in all areas but that's how it works in Bristol and here in South Wales. I'm sure if they see anything to be further concerned with they will get you in faster.  Thankfully my consultant rang me with my ct results on the morning of my sons 12th birthday, I had convinced myself that it was the last birthday I would spend with him.  I really did let my mind think the worst about everything.  I hope the results are good for you too and believe me it does get easier when you know exactly what you're dealing with.  Sending you lots of positive vibes x

  • Feeling for you, as others have said the waiting is the worst part.  And be prepared,  the more scans you have, the more things they find that they want to check further resulting in more scans and more waiting.   But it is worth it, with all the information you will have a better treatment plan and an improved outcome.   Since finding a lump on 3rd October 2024 I have had 16 hospital appointments,  including 4 scans, a mastectomy and an echocardiogram.   I am cancer free following the surgery but have plenty of preventative treatment ahead of me, chemotherapy,  radiotherapy and hormone treatment.  Stay strong,  I did a lot of walking,  swimming and lunches out during the waiting period,  anything you enjoy to take your mind off things for a few hours. I waited 6 weeks from diagnosis to surgery and it will be 6 weeks from surgery to chemotherapy,  and around 4 months to radiotherapy.   Wishing you all the best for your journey.   Hugs xxx

  • I am also in bristol. I had my ct scan on Monday snd resukts should be back between 7-10 days. Will this need to go to another mdt meeting? I think they’re held on Thursdays in my hospital so I may miss next weeks and then be another week on

  • Hi yes unfortunately it will need to go to another meeting, Thursday sounds right or I think that's what Southmead always was.  On the positive side there are excellent facilities in Bristol, hopefully they'll get the results back intime.  I had my MRI on the Tuesday, CT on the Wednesday and I was supposed to get the results 10 days later but had a phone call on the Friday, literally 2 days after my CT scan so I think I was lucky that everything lined up, i have my fingers crossed that your timings will be quicker too

  • Wow you were really lucky getting them so quickly! I will chase on Monday to see if there’s any update. Fingers crossed they come back in time. If not then it’ll be the week later and it’ll only be a few days before my op on 24th x
