Hi, I was diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma HER2 in April 24,  I’ve done the chemo, masectomy and rt, and I now will be going on Kadcyla to treat the HER2.   Has or is there anyone here on Kadcyla, and how did you get on with the treatment?  xx

  • I’m currently on Kadcyla for early breast cancer and over halfway through. It’s been easier than EC and Docetaxel/phesgo, though I still need a few days to recover after each session. At first, recovery took three to four days, but now it takes a little longer.

I had a reaction to Kadcyla in my first round, so now my treatments are given over 90 minutes with Piriton and hydrocortisone beforehand to manage it.

When I’m unwell, rest and sleep help. I also try to get back to exercising quickly—it makes a big difference. I’ve been able to work when I feel well and am almost back to normal for two weeks out of every three. I just plan for one rough week after treatment.

I was very nervous about starting Kadcyla after neoadjuvant chemo, but it hasn’t been as bad as I expected. My biggest emotional low was after round 7, when I felt fed up and over it. My BCN said this is common at that stage, which I found reassuring.

I hope this helps and gives you more context. Is there anything specific you’re worried about?

  • Hi, thank you for a detailed reply, I’m not worried, just curious as to how people dealt with it.  I was on docetaxel, carboplastin and phesgo, and starting Kadcyla tomorrow for 14 sessions.  I wish you well and best wishes xxx

  • Understood, and that's really good news that you're not worried about it. I hope this has been helpful. Just a last thing to mention, as it’s only just occurred to me - I did experience quite bad headaches. I suffer from migraines anyway, and the first few rounds of Kadcyla seemed to trigger them. I was able to see my GP and get some migraine medication, which helped.

    Good luck today xx

  • Thank you xx.  I had no reactions during infusion and I am ok, apart from a dull headache.  Hope you’re keeping well xx

  • I had the same regime as you, finished my 14 rounds of Kadcyla December 2023.  Had no reactions at all.  Waiting at the moment for my year 2 mammogram results and keeping fingers crossed.  Hope your treatment goes well. X
