Hi, I've just joint the group.  Found out I have Lobular breast cancer. Having a mastectomy on the 7th January.  No cancer family history, completely out the blue.

Advice on where to get bras?

Looking like I'll have radiotherapy once healing has happened

  • i have so many questions and thoughts.  Glad I have come on here x

Very scared.

In terms of bras, I found M&S had some surgery bras, and I'm on the larger side and these worked well for me.

It's absolutely normal to feel scared but your surgery will soon be over and you’ll be on the road to recovery.  You might find some helpful information here Breast cancer info link here as well.

    best wishes

  • Thank you so much.

I guess it's a fear of the unknown and often unspoken about.

How long realistically is recovery from mastectomy?

  • Hi newscast 25 - I’m new to this group today too! Someone’s just beaten me to the bra question and I was also going to say M&S have post surgery bras & will help with measuring to get the right one if you ask in the lingerie department. They VAT free too!

I had surgery in October & I went in feeling so scared. The hospital team were amazing & although busy they gave me time to talk and blub and filled me with confidence with their compassion and kindness. I actually left the hospital feeling like I’d had a good day!

All the best with your surgery & treatment. You’re not on your own. Here’s a hug from me x

  • Thank you so much x

It's so good to hear other people's experiences x

  • Hi I also have lobular and my mastectomy is on 24 Jan. I’m like you and so scared. I also got a ct scan tomorrow just to check my whole body and organs

  • M&S do nice ones and also a company called Nicole Jane. I haven’t bought any yet but had a look. I’ve also ordered a couple of oversized zip up hoodies

  • Hi , woweny bras off Amazon are great, they are expensive but I have been wearing mine now for the last 3 months, and I also wear them to bed they small size up to plus size, I have a few of them now as I find them very comfortable, I would maybe buy one just to see how you get on with them, I have stage 1 breast cancer, had it removed along with 2 lymph node’s and am due to start my 5 year tablets after new year, my choice as I didn’t want anymore aches and pains straight after radio therapy, it’s just another option for you to try, I wish you luck with everything, take care Heart

  • I was given a post surgery bra prior to my operation for a left sided mastectomy in April, I have some pretty M&S bras that I wear going out but day to day I am still wearing the post surgery bras from Asda online line - pack of two £16 that my bc nurse told me about as I find them more comfortable they are front fastening and just look like sports bras although I am not big busted I got the large size.

Good luck with your surgery Xxx

  • Good luck with CT scan 2moro. I wasn't expecting to have one, so that was scary, had the gel stuff in to see everywhere. It didn't take long or hurt, but it worried me. Luckily for me it hadn't spread further!

Let us know how you get on x

  • Thank you. Did you also have lymph node involvement?
