Hello all and thanks for reading!
After the usual rigmarole, i've got my initial diagnosis of ILC grade 2. Im also waiting on MRI results for an additional 4-5cm mass that is indeterminate on mammo/US as that could change things a bit.
When i went to get my results I met a consultant who was 'filling in' for another (first one ive met). it went SO FAST, he was a tad curt and said I will have surgery within 5 weeks. The nurse then gave me some leaflets and said ill have a pre-op at some point.
I just got a letter for another appointment with him on the 10th Jan 25.
My question is; this guy is a surgeon, so what is an oncologist and will i see one? or is that the same thing? When do We talk about what my options are for treatment? I feel like I wont have much time to consider them. Sorry if this all seems obvious
Im at Wigan Thomas Linacre Centre but Im not sure if its right for me. It just didn't feel like a great start. I also asked could i record the conversation and the consultant just said no without explaination haha - I mean fair enough, I just didn't get great vibes.
Thanks all x
Hi Mamii
Welcome to the forum and I’m sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. An oncologist decides what chemo drugs to give you if you are having chemo. Once your surgeon has the results of you mri they will then decide on what’s the best course of treatment for you.
Wishing you the best of luck with whatever comes next for you.
Best wishes

Hi Mamii , in my case, the initial appointment for biopsy results and to discuss possible treatments was with one of the breast clinic doctors. A surgery date was agreed but I didn’t actually meet the surgeon till the day of the op. Post op results appointment was with the surgeon. He told me that the next treatments would likely be hormone therapy and radiotherapy. Then several weeks later I saw the oncologist to discuss these. At the oncology appointment I signed the consent forms for radiotherapy and was also given my first prescription for hormone therapy tablets. That was the sequence of events for me but other areas may be different. It will become clear in the end! Love and hugs, HFxx
Hi Mamii
Sorry you have to be here but welcome! My initial breast clinic appointment was with the surgeon and she also gave me the biopsy results two weeks later along with a provisional treatment plan. I saw the surgeon again on the day of surgery and then for a fourth time when I had some swelling which needed to be drained. My results after surgery were give by a Consultant BCN. I then saw the oncologist who prescribed hormone therapy and got me to sign consent for radiotherapy, this was quite brief and I never saw him again. My final follow up was a phone call from an oncology nurse.
Best of luck with everything. x
