Hi, I’m Sharon 55 years young, I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in November I had my tumour and 3 nodes removed on the 10th December all went well started to recover and wait for my radiotherapy appointment etc for January some time ( I now live in portugal) so treatment may be slightly different than uk.
on day 6 I felt a pop in my breast along exscrustiatncg pain and swelling with a Brest like a rock. Turns out I had a burst vessel I had to be cut to release pressure and then emergency op to find the bleed, this was probably more traumatic than having the cancer removed. I’m now day 5 and am starting to get better but I have had to be drained yesterday of free fluid old blood but has started to fill again so starting to get uncomfortable , sore and swollen I’m due to get it drained on Tuesday again. Has anyone else experienced this type of thing and is there anything I can do. My armpit is very tender I was not given any exercises so I have started to follow some cancer research exercises. So to waffle we don’t seem to have support groups. I feel I was very lucky it could have been worse but so traumatic it’s almost taken over from having been diagnosed and getting ready for radiotherapy. Any advice or anything would be greatly appreciated
Hi Shazzaportugal gosh that sounds quite frightening. I haven't had the exactly the same experience but I did develop a seroma (fluid swelling) after my surgery and this delayed my radiotherapy as the seroma had to settle enough so that they knew precisely where to “nuke me” for the targeted radiotherapy, so this might be something to ask about.
Also, the teams here in the UK are very adamant on exercises after surgery, so glad you have found some on line as I think these really help recovery. Best wishes
Hi Sharon.
i was diagnosed with triple positive BC two tumours in left breast December 23 and started phesgo injections together with chemotherapy before Christmas which came as a shock. Had a left mastectomy in April and three weeks later had to return to surgery for a very painful hematoma caused by a leaking blood vessel, the second surgery did put me back psychologically as I developed BP issues.
I am now on Herceptin injections three weekly until about April, letrozole tablets daily for five years and twice yearly bone infusions.
the waiting for results is the worst bit but once you get your plan it does help as you have something to work to keep up the exercises.
Good luck with your recovery Xxx
Hi Shazza, sorry to hear about the ‘infection..!
had my BC tumour operation on the same day as you, 10th dec. 2x cuts breast and underarm. (Lymph nodes) The underarm cut is much more ‘tender’ painful. Had the stitches removed on the 23rd. Started the gentle exercises to stretch and keep shoulder mobile. We’re talking little up/down shoulders to ears, then roll shoulders back. Hands on shoulders .. hold on sending photos.. good luck! I started Anastrozol and the abdominal cramping is keeping me awake !! If anyone has any advice (hot water bottle & paracetamol is atm) Next is radiotherapy in feb.
Hey
sorry you had nerve damage but really glad your in the up
Hi Bella22 thankyou for sending the pics of exercises that’s really helpful. Hope your pain is settling down a bit mine just feels really sore i haven’t seen an oncologist yet till the 8th so I haven’t started any medication yet. Hope the cramps have stopped. Good luck with your recovery
Hi Shazza,
Glad the pain is settling.. mine is so much more manageable now stitches are out, not so tight. Doing exercises daily ( recommended 3x/ day! ;)
im seeing the oncologist on the 6th, radiotherapy in Feb.
its so nice to be able to share experiences as we’re so close in dates.
wishing a well deserved amazing New Year.
Morning yes let’s keep in touch . I think I’m getting cording under armpit so need to see what I should do if anything also I had a thought about deodorant I use a roll on but does anyone suggest any particular type ? . Also vein question I I’ve having short acrylic nails as mine are awful can I still have them during radiotherapy? It’s not the end of the world but they make me feel nice
let’s have a great new year and kick arse
I would try to see a physio, i was recommended one by my surgeon. Shes the one who insisted i do these gentle exercises 3x/day!! And checked me for cording..
Stay mobile but no exercise! Im on holiday with the family but.. no long walk, no swimming or hot tub, or massage for 6wks post Op.
i use a roll on deo, with no aluminium!! Probably will have to stop with radiotherapy. I have my acrylic nails.. itsxmas.. but probably also stop soon.. what about having our roots done?? Take care.
