It’s 3 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer I had all the treatments chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, surgery and now I’m on a hormone blocker.
Im in great form back at work doing all the normal things my little problem is my hair growth it’s taking ages . I wore a wig for a time and when I decided to return to work I got a system extensions and a topper really to stop people asking questions . But it’s taking ages to get volume in my hair and when I have the system taken off for maintenance the front is still very light 2 years on .
I am so happy to be so well again but I would love my hair and eyebrows back to near normal has anyone any tips .
would love to hear a success story as I’m a bit down
Hi, I was diagnose with Stage IV metastatic Her2 positive breast cancer last November. I had 8 doxi chemo treatments and am now on Phesgo every three weeks. I am 47 and was first diagnose three years ago. My hair has been incredibly slow to grow and my eyebrows show no real signs of coming back. I use Latisse on my eyelashes and that has helped immensely. About 6 weeks ago I took the plunge and got nano brows which is like a semi permanent tattoo for eyelashes. The are incredibly real looking. I have to go back for a touch up and they are not perfect but they make me feel more confident. I also take Viviscal (vitamins) at night and I do think it helps with hair growth. I don't think this issue is talked about enough. Of course I am happy that is seems my treatment s working for now but it is really hard to deal with how I look now. Insurance pays for the Latisse but the brows were on me and they were about $700. I would recommend looking into that. You are not alone. It feels shallow to talk about my hair when the treatment is saving my life but it is an issue. I wish you nothing but the best and remember, you are not alone in this.
Maybe you could get eyebrow tattoos? Though I notice all the female newscasters on TV seem to have all theirs plucked out and re-drawn higher up. You may be more in fashion than you realise! I hope your hair grows back soon. I have heard there is a treatment called "Regaine", though i don't know if it works for chemo hair loss. Maybe ask a pharmacist?
