Hi all,

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last April.  As there was lymph node involvement from the outset I started with chemo which saw a reduction by 30% in the tumors (all 3).  I had surgery 3 weeks ago - DIEP flap reconstruction, and axillary clearance.  I got the pathology report yesterday which was positive.  2 smaller tumors had completely dissipated and larger one was 1.5cm with 20% cancer density (not correct terminology). 4 /14 nodes had cancer.  Initially I was delighted but then realized this pushes me into the high risk or recurrance territory.  I know my plan will include radiotherapy and hormonal therapy which I know will

bring side effects - which I’m not afraid of.  It’s a small price to pay and happy to get on with things.  I suppose I’m hoping to find people in a similar situation who will reassure me that things aren’t that bad.  Thank you.

  • Hi Squirrel1

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer.  I started hormonal therapy a few months ago and apart from some hot flushes I haven't had any side effects from the tablets.

Wishing you the best of luck with your radiotherapy and the tablets.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Squirel1

I had op chemo, radiotherapy and now hormone treatment.

The chemo if needed is doable, not pleasant but needed.

The radiotherapy is easier on you can cause some discomfort and skin irritation.

I am now on Letrozole and apart from occasional stiffness of some joint and hot flushes I am tolerating it well.

Everyone is different however. I try to remind myself of why I am taking these treatments and the outcome if I didn't. This then puts it into perspective for me.

Be kind to yourself listen to your body and do what's best for uou. Good luck with your journey xx

  • Thank you  .  Great to hear your hormonal therapy is going well.  I hope it continues well for you and appreciate your reassurance.

  • Thank you  .  I am not overly concerned about radiation and the hormonal therapy and agree with you that it is important to be grateful they are all there.  I hope your journey continues well and thank you for responding.

  • Thank you and you also. I wish you well xx

  • Hi Squirrel 1, I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in January. I had 2 tumour, 1 lymph node affected and cancer cells in breast tissue. I had seven cycles of chemo and responded really well. I had a diep flap reconstruction 4 weeks ago and am recovering quite well. I just have a small part of my tummy wound that hasn't yet healed, so have weekly appointments at the hospital. I have now been put on letrazole for 5 years, to help the risk of recurrence. I am on zoledronic acid infusions every 6 months for 3 years and due to being HER2 positive I'm on Phesgo injections. I have my radiotherapy scan and marking appointment next week and will get my schedule to start 2 weeks later. I  still need a breast reduction at some point of healthy breast. It would be nice to keep in touch and share experiences moving forward. Xx

  • Thanks Daisy, would love to stay in touch.  My surgery was around the same time.  I’m healing really well and feeling good.  Not exactly the same size as my other breast but not too far off so won’t take this further.  Looking forward to starting the next phases of treatment.  I have an MRI next week

as have back pains which I am hoping are tension etc. so also looking forward to getting these results.  Best of luck with everything and let’s definitely stay in touch.  Thank you.

  • Hi, stage 3 here.  My cancer was 13cm, 7/14 nodes positive.  Surgery, chemo, radiotherapy and just this month finished 2 years of Abermaciclib for high risk recurrence.  I am on Letrozole now for another 8 years.  3 years since diagnosis and all going in the right direction so far xx
