Good evening,

So on Friday last week I was told that I have got Breast Cancer, I’m still in the early stages of taking in this diagnosis and I’ve just started on the very long journey ahead. I’ve joined this group so I can start to get my head around what’s to come, but it all feels so very overwhelming.

One of my first questions is…what shampoo would people recommend that has a low PH, I’m going to be starting Chemo shortly and I’ve been advised to use one that has a low PH but I’m not sure where to even start!

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Two hearts

  • Hi Super strong mum,

Welcome to the forum.  Sorry I font know much about shampoos to use.

My hair all fell out after my 2nd cycle of chemo. So that was about 4 weeks into chemo.

Are you going to try the cold cap I didn't xx

  • Hello Super Strong Mum - so sorry to hear your news - but don’t be downhearted… there are so many wonderful specialists and treatments these days.

As for shampoo, I use the Cornish Seaweed Bath Company.  Their organic shampoos and conditioners are fabulous, free of all nasties.  My hair is incredibly soft and shiny and I wouldn’t use any other hair products now.

All the very best to you.  Keep positive and eat lots of broccoli, kale and pomegranates.  Read Eat to Beat Disease- a great book.

  • Hello Missymolly,

    Thank you for you reply,

Yes I’m going to try the cold cap, not sure how I’ll get on with it, but thought I’d give it a go and see.

My biggest worry is loosing my hair, as I don’t wear makeup so my hair is my way to expressing myself (loads of colours…pinks/red/purple) but I understand it is possible to all fall out.

  • Hi Viticella,

Thank you for your reply, I shall definitely look into those.

Yes I definitely aim to stay positive, and will look into your book recommendation too.

  • Hi super strong mum,

I did fret about loosing my hair, however my wig is brilliant. I have red dyed hair and my wig specialist was able to match it. I've met people I know who were unable to tell I was wearing a wig as managed to get same colour and style as my own.

But not everyone looses their hair. Good luck with your treatments and recovery.

    Wishing you well xx

  • Hi Missmolly can I ask where you got your wig?   Did you use the hospital or source your own?  My chemo is due to start soon and this is something I'm looking into.   Thx

  • I used one of the hospital suggestions. I'm in Scotland and used the Galston shop. Kylie was amazing she ordered in lots for me to try. She was unsure if she would find a good match for my red colour but she did. It was also the same style as my own hair.

She ordered from different sources so I could choose the correct fit, feel, etc. It can be cut or thinned t your liking.

When I was in for treatment today a lady I know was there also and asked if I had used the cold cap to keep my hair. I explained I hadn't used it as was to uncomfortable and I had a wig on. She was quite shocked and said she would never have known. Xx

  • Thank you, I will speak to my Breast cancer team for their recommendations locally.    Good luck with your recovery x

  • Thank you and to you xx

  • I used tea tree shampoo from Holland and Barrett all the way through chemo, even when I had lost all my hair as I felt it was keeping my scalp healthy. I’m now using Rosemary shampoo from Faith in Nature which is supposed to help regrowth (I’m 10 weeks post chemo).
