Hi my GP confirmed I have a mass 12cm by 10cm in my left breast this morning. Finally managed to get a face to face appointment after trying for over ,8 months.
GP say lump is most probably cancerous.
I am type 1 diabetic have gastroperises and fibromyalgia.
I've told it will probably take about 4 weeks before I can get tests for diagnosis done and will need to wIt a further 4 weeks for results.
I'm in shock. What should I do?
Hi Campbellf,
I can imagine how much of a shock this is for you. Even though the GP can say that they think its cancer until you have the proper tests they don't know. There is normally a pathway that someone is seen with two weeks if there are red flags I:E the GP saying they think it's cancer. Then normally around 10 days to two weeks for the results of those tests. Please chat with the Macmillian Nurses on this forum as they are aware of what waiting for tests and results can affect someone. They have no access to medical records of course but I found them amazing when I was awaiting tests and results.Sending you positive thoughts xxx
Thank you for the reassurance.
Plan on contacting Macmillan nurses by phone tomorrow.
Hi Campbellf,
As the other lady said make contact with the macmillan nurses on the forum.
There are processes they follow when you have concerns regarding testing.
It's a bit presumptuous of your GP to give that advice without mammogram, scan and biopsy to determine if cancer or not.
When my referral went through I had an appointment within 10days had the mammogram scan and biopsy to confirm at this stage.
I hope you manage to speak with someone tomorrow and get more support and reassurance.
Use this forum to chat get support from others with similar voncern.
I hope you get an appointment soon. Xx
Hi Campbellf,
I am sorry to hear you are going through this. I had a lumpectomy nearly four months ago and lymph nodes removed, I’m having radiotherapy this week. I don’t think your GP should have said that to you, this should have been done by your Doctor in the hospital after you get your results, no wonder you are worrying unduly. Hopefully all will be well, but even if it is not, there is so much they can do with todays medicine. If it is positive, it’s a shock when you are told, but it is important you take a bit of time to let it register and sink in.
You have made the first big step by finding the Macmillan site, also do visit your nearest Macmillan centre, a list is on here, or ring them on 0808 808 0000, they are superbly helpful and give you lots of great info, do walks, talks and lots more. You can do a lot for yourself too. Please get a good support structure in place, family, friends, good work colleagues, I’ve lived on my own for nigh on forty years, but realised you can’t do this on your own. I also go for a short walk every day (British weather permitting) and do a daily diary, this is mega helpful, as it gets everything off your chest and out of your system. It is important during the day to keep yourself occupied, hobbies, interests etc., it stops you from dwelling on what is going on. You may also find it beneficial to listen to a meditation podcast, they really help you to relax especially when you are trying to get to sleep. I use one called ‘Go Gently’ by Christine Elizabeth Smith, it does a lot for me. Whatever you do, do not visit Dr Google as there is so much conflicting information, your head will spin and it will stress you out, listen to your medical team and you get great support on here.
I know it’s hard sometimes, but try and keep as positive as you possibly can, have positive people around you and dump the negativity, above all, be kind to yourself - I promise you, if it’s the worse case scenario, you will get through this. You are never alone and can always come and chat to us shower in here.
Take care and big hugs.xxx
