Hi new here just had needle biopsies yesterday and told it was cancer and now beside myself waiting for appointment to see consultant will be in about 3 weeks , really struggling right now xx

  • Hi Onzog,

I had three biopsies, a lumpectomy just over a month ago and two lymph nodes removed. It is a shock when you are told and it is important you take a bit of time to let it register and sink in. I know the waiting is the worse thing ever, but there are things you can do to help yourself.

You have made the first big step by finding the Macmillan site, also do visit your nearest Macmillan centre, a list is on here, or ring them on 0808 808 0000, they are superbly helpful and give you lots of great info, do walks, talks and lots more. Please also get a good support structure in place, family, friends, good work colleagues, I’ve lived on my own for nigh on forty years, but realised you can’t do this on your own. I also go for a short walk every day (British weather permitting) and do a daily diary, this is mega helpful, as it gets everything off your chest and out of your system. It is important during the day to keep yourself occupied, hobbies, interests etc., it stops you from dwelling on what is going on. You may also find it beneficial to listen to a meditation podcast, they really help you to relax especially when you are trying to get to sleep. I use one called ‘Go Gently’ by Christine Elizabeth Smith, it does a lot for me.

I know it’s hard sometimes, but try and keep as positive as possible can, have positive people around you and dump the negativity, above all, be kind to yourself - I promise you, you will get through this. You are never alone and can always come and chat to us shower in here.

    Take care and big hugs.xx

  • Hi Onzog

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear that you’ve been told you have breast cancer. Breast cancer is very treatable and your medical team will do everything in their power to make sure that you get better.

Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment.

    Best wishes

  • I totally understand how you feel. I had my lumpectomy on Tuesday. Try to keep yourself busy, if you want to cry, just cry when you are feeling low but you will get through this. I’m waiting on my post op appointment, dreading the outcome but I’m trying to be strong for my family.

  • Thanks Daisy53 xx

  • Thanks for your reply xx hope you are healing well xx will be thinking about you and the post op appointment xx it’s the wait that’s really upsetting me xx

  • Thanks for your reply xx I’m really struggling right now and may be another month before I get the full results xx life feels surreal and living in limbo land . It’s really pushing me in a dark place xx

  • Hi Onzog

Would you consider some counselling to talk about how you are feeling.  If so there is a couple of options, you could ring the Macmillan helpline on 8080 088 00 00 and  they'll be able to arrange some free counselling through BUPA or if there is a Maggie's centre or another cancer centre near you you could call in or give them a ring to talk to someone about how you are feeling.

It might also be a good idea to give your breast care nurse a ring to see if they can put a rush on your results.

  • I totally agree. On the day of my appointment for Biopsy results, I felt weak with nerves; though as soon as I was taken into the consultants office and the Consultant explained everything to me I felt so much better.  They are so thorough and the Breast Clinic Nurses are so supportive.  There is so much help available.  You will have so much support.
And one piece of advice, make sure you bring someone with you to your appointment as they will remember everything you have been told which is a great help.

  • Hi,

I had mamo, U/S and biopsy a week ago Friday, 24th May. I was told I have breast cancer, lymphs clear, will need lumpectomy and probably radio but not chemo. I get my biopsy results this Tuesday, 4th, by a phone call in the evening.

I know how you feel about the waiting, it's hard not to think about it. Its all thst goes though your mind. I don't know if these pages are a help or a hindrance.

My referral from the doc came through and wasn't until the 10th June, 5 and half week wait, I couldn't wait that long, so paid for private tests. I'll be handed back to the NHS when the biopsy results are back.

Even though the wait from biopsy to results is only 11 days, it feels like forever. I'm also worried and about being lost in the system with being NHS, then private then back to NHS.

I hope you get your results very soon.

  • Hi, the worst part of the diagnosis for me, was the lack of control and the waiting. Rest assured everything will come together. Be kind to yourself. Being told you have cancer is harsh and rocks yoHeartr world. I struggled massively but have managed to get through lumpectomy, radiotherapy and medication. You are stronger than you think you are and can beat this. Sending you lots of love Heart️
