I’ve just been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer.l have a 6cm tumour. which will be removed tomorrow, Monday 11th March., along with lymph nodes under my arm, followed by radiotherapy and estrogen suppressant tablets.
Has anyone had anything similar?
Hi MarchMadness, I had a similar diagnosis and tumour in 2012 following a routine mammogram at 50 years old.
I chose not to go with the hormone treatment due to the side effects, but feel now that this was a mistake.
In December I was diagnosed again but with stage 2 breast cancer (same breast) which required a mastectomy. Cancer also found in my auxiliary lymph nodes, so now undergoing Chemo and will need another op to remove the lymph nodes afterwards.
All the best with your op tomorrow. I had no problems other than some cording in my arm for which exercises helped.
You’re undergoing the right treatment plan and will be fine. Hugs xx

Hi MarchMadness
Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a similar diagnosis last May and had two surgeries and chemo. I am currently going through radiotherapy and have started taking estrogen suppressant tablets. Apart from feeling tiied I'm having no ill effects from treatment.
Wishing you the best of luck with your operation.
Best wishes

MarchMadness hi, I hope your operation went well today - you may still be sleeping. I had an operation for something similar last week and I am doing ok. Just need to wait a couple more weeks for my results. If you have any questions you want to ask me, feel free to message me and if I can help I will. Wishing you a speedy recovery x
I had a mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy November for 2 large lobular tumours. I went home with a drain in for a week and didn’t get dressed for a fortnight. The pain was a lot worse than I thought it would be and the recovery a lot slower. I had radiotherapy for 5 days and fortunately didn’t need chemo.
My advice would be not to expect too much of yourself and be kind rather than hard on yourself which I was very much! Take all the help that is offered and if you can afford a cleaner get one!! And when your treatment is over it’s not over, so don’t let anyone tell you ‘onwards and upwards’.
I hope your op goes well, it’s a long journey ahead and I’m still off sick and struggling with pain. But I’ll get there and so will you!
x
Thankyou so much for your reply. My op went really well. I’m numb down the arm that my lymph nodes were removed from but apart from that, l feel great.
How are you feeling since your op?
Thankyou for your reply. I’m feeling good so far. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been so ill. There are so many different types of cancer that it’s confusing. I never realised before. I haven’t had radiotherapy yet until I’m healed but we’ll see how that goes.
A day at a time.
Big hug.xxx
Thankyou. My op went very well. and I’m awaiting results of the lymph node removal.
How are you feeling today?
That’s fabulous. Please give yourself a chance to rest though as my fatigue crept up on me. I am out and about, trying to do a long walk (ish) every day but then tend to go back to bed. It’s not just the operation I am recovering from, it’s getting me head around things too! Have you got an exercise sheet to follow? I find them quite manageable. Take care and look after yourself x
That’s good to know. Thankyou.
My op went very well. Not really any pain, just numbness under my arm, where the lymph nodes were removed.
Im awaiting the results of the biopsy, which l should receive within about a month.
Best wishes.xx
Hi MarchMadness, I had the same diagnosis in mid January after picked up on a routine mammogram. Things moved fairly fast and I underwent surgery on the 30th to remove the tumor (which was smaller than originally thought) as well as sentinel lymph node removal for biopsy. My results came back on the 29th of Feb and on Wednesday I went in for post op checkup. Still waiting for full pathology report before I can move onto radiation therapy and blockers.
My surgery went well and for the first couple of days I found it uncomfortable to move around properly but persevered. Started with the exercises the next day and even though slightly painful I completed the required sets three times a day as well as getting out on short walks after a few days. I have been so lucky to not have any cording or other side effects. Please be gentle with yourself and take the time your body is asking you for to rest and repair. I listened to lots of podcasts and audiobooks as well whilst resting and only did the bare minimum such as making tea and a slice of toast. I find that I am still numb on the upper part of my underarm.
I'm fortunate that my hubby and teenage son took on all the household chores for the first couple of weeks and I’ve only recently started to take over my chores again.
Best wishes xx
