Hi,

I'm newly diagnosed triple neg breast cancer.

Awaiting my BRACA result, which is likely to make the difference between lumpectomy and bilateral mastectomy.

Is there anyone whose had nipple sparing mastectomy and is prepared to talk about nipple sensitivity post op.

This is a big deal for me, and more important than the cosmetic results.

There's not a lot of information out there, and even my female surgeon doesn't seem to see sensitivity and sexuality as a priority. I understand get rid of the cancer is number 1 priority but this really matters to me

  • Hi

Sorry that you find yourself here. I do hope that the BRACA result comes back negative and you have a lumpectomy.

I can't answer your question as I had a lumpectomy, but as your post has dropped to the second page (it's such a busy group!), by answering I am getting your post back to the first page and hopefully a lady will be around now who can answer your question.

    Kindest Wishes, Lesley

  • Hi

I can't answer your question in it's entirety as I had a lumpectomy,  but my surgery came very close to the nipple.

As I was being wheeled back to the ward after surgery we met the surgeon in the corridor and her first words were "we managed to save the nipple".

So far, 8 months after surgery it's been a mixed bag.

I've had reduced sensation on the sides of the teat and nothing at all on the very tip/flat end.

However, I have noticed over the last couple of weeks things seem to be changing slightly.

I am beginning to be able to feel touch sensations eg. if I scratch my nails over the very tip of the nipple but I still have no sensation of hot or cold.

I start radiotherapy tomorrow so I have no idea what that will do in terms of this.

I'm not sure anyone can predict what you'll get as it's not an exact science but I do understand.
