Hello

ive had a recent diagnosis, just last week, HER2+ Ductal stage 3. Been for ultrasound, biopsy, MRI, have another biopsy coming, but expect to start chemo around the 21st March.

feeling sad/ angry/ confused most the time at the moment. It’s going to be a rubbish 36th birthday present as I could be starting on or close to 24th which is my birthday. Also have a 14month old, who I’m so worried I just won’t be able to enjoy the way I should for such a crucial part of his growth, and that’s getting me down.

 Any other soon-to-be-starters?

Any one have any advice on what to buy/ bring to chemo treatment sessions?

  • Hi, I also had my 1st round 11 days ago; I was great for 4 days but then 2 days of sickness followed by utter fatigue. I woke earlier and feel fine today so I'm determined to sow some seedlings while I have the energy. I have a rescheduled telephone consultation today with the Oncologist ( 3 days earlier than scheduled and not face to face as planned) so worried that the results of my pre chemo abdominal scan has shown something!!  Trying to stay positive.

  • Hi Lynda, I too had something show up on my scan in bowel. Had it checked and all was fine. I went thinking the worse but told myself that I'm going to war, it will be a battle and I will have a few scars but I will bloody win this war. We are stronger than we think xx

  • You are so positive; I'm trying! Some days I feel stronger than others, I'll just pretend that I'm back in the Army in the late 70s  and unphased by most situations.

  • A bit worried. I got underarm pain which hasn’t been there since I started chemo. Also spotting. Will ask the doc next week but worried if the chemo is working. Anyone else have something similar?

  • Not sure if this is appropriate - but whatever gets you through.  It seems I have 'normal' pain after surgery, which consists of a feeling of burning and shooting pains, and are 24/7 so very debilitating indeed..  Have been told just to use paracetamol, or ibuprofin, but can't use paracetamol one I start chemo (this Friday).  So have used some canabis patches, and they seem to be working a treat.  Not for everyone, but seems to be working for me.

  • Went ok, looks like some got stuck in my veins after trying 7 times to get in, that’s the worst bit for me….. hate needles Rofl

  • Hi, I thought I'd jump on this thread as it felt most relevant to me.  Hope that's OK?  I started chemo beginning of March.  I'm on 12 weekly palaxitol, with carboplatin and immunotherapy every 3 weeks.  Just had week 7 today, so technically 2 rounds down and start of round 3 today.

I will then move on to 4 rounds of EC.  I have TNBC IDC 35mm tumor Grade 3.

Chemo so far has been 'fine'.  Side effects mainly tiredness, a bit spaced out.  I have now lost my sense of taste which is inconvenient but manageable.  I have to take steroids every day which are causing me to not be able to sleep very well which can be quite frustrating and I am soooooooo hungry!!

I am cold capping and have shed some hair but all looking OK at the moment, I'm sure there will be more but will deal with that when it happens.  My nurses adviced getting a rubber swimming cap and I use that over the top just for extra security I guess!

Anyway I've realised I'm late for the bus on this one haha and you have already started your chemo.  Hope all is going well as can be and I'll get on and actually read the rest of the thread...... IJoy new here BTW Joy

  • Hi  ,

Glad your chemotherapy sessions so far are going ok for you and the side effects manageable.
I start my EC next Tuesday, with cold cap.
It’s great to hear how everyone is getting on and hopefully we will help each other through the next weeks and months x

  • Hi, my chemo nurses recommended caphasol dispersables for mouth ulcers/sores.  I have them on repeat prescription from GP.  Apparently they are very expensive to prescribe and GPs can be a bit funny about ordering but I would look into getting some.  Hope this helps x

  • Thankyou! Good luck for Tuesday.  Let us know how it goes x
