Hi folks - diagnosed stage 2a Breast Cancer Oestrogen positive - lumpectomy in October and took all nodes (apparently only had 10 nodes and 3 tested positive for cancer) so started chemo last Friday - |Epirubicin and Cyclocphosphamide. Did exactly as was told, took the steroids they gave me to take home and took those for the first three days and had zero side effects (bit angry maybe, but no physical side effects). Ate well, normal energy levels. Stopped taking steroids at end of Monday and, since Tuesday energy levels pretty low (but can cope with that), appetitive non-existent (but am eating) BUT cramps in colon area both sides of tummy. Spoke to Oncology Nurses who were great, but has anyone else had any experience of these cramps please, and did they find Buscopan worked. x
Hi PaulineP, sorry you have been getting cramps. I too am on EC and have the various tablets to take after. I haven't experienced cramps, but I have kept a diary and written down anything side effects, foods I've eaten, how I've felt etc. I also make a note of when I have been number 2's as I know they tablets can make you constipated which perhaps can give cramps maybe I'm not sure. I take something called senosoft and found this helps. Hopefully someone can let you know if they have tried Buscopan or maybe your emergency helpline can advise of something else that might help relieve the cramps for you.
Wishing you all the best on your journey.

Hi cuffcake, ahh thanks for your reply - took some buscopan this morning and actually it seems to be helping so feeling a bit better. Will do the diary thing - not massive appetite as yet but anticipate it will return. Poops seem to be okay but am fastidious at keeping up water intake to keep everything on the move. Got to focus on the long term picture I guess. Will be better forewarned for next round which, lucky old me, is being done every TWO weeks, not every three - subject to bloods and review with oncologist. Hugs back to you. xxx
Glad the Buscopan has helped Yes mines every 2 weeks for EC then it changes to every 3 weeks for Docetaxel. Not looking forward to that one as I have to have the HER2 positive targeted drugs too. I’m hoping it will not be to harsh with side effects. I found focusing on one stage at a time helps as it can be overwhelming with trying to look at the whole picture.
All the best and have a wonderful Christmas

Hi PaulineP I too have been on EC & suffer with IBS so buscapan has been my friend for years! It really does work for cramps. Like Cuffcake says, this drug causes constipation and for some that comes with cramps also. You can buy it in all supermarkets on the shelf so give it a try! Good luck!
Hiya just wanted to help i find grapes and grapejuice a great help to keep the bowels working especially when you have a sore mouth too wishing you all the best X
I seem to have something going on bowel wise. Wind problems, not very pleasant for my family. I suffer constipation too. Did Buscapan help with wind?
Thanks Fiona, so buscopan has sorted the cramping, stayed on it for about 24 hours and it seemed to sort it and now okay without it - but at least I know for next time - BUT I never had constipation or diarrhea with the cramps, just cramps alone BUT did cut out Crunchy Bran which I had been having for breakfast, so that MIGHT have been part of the problem. All part of the joyous learning curve I guess!! xx
Hi Sabrina, didn't have constipation or diarrhea BUT I think the Buscopan did slow my bowel down a bit so I would say I had less windage than normal (despite an abnormal love of sprouts!) so it might be good for that? - am fastidious about drinking 3litres of water evenly spaced every day, no caffeine, and am doing a pint of veg/fruit smoothies to keep the roughage and nutrients up. xx
That sounds really healthy. I was a coffee addict although most of it was decaf. I have a troublesome haemorrhoid at present. I am becoming intolerant to some foods. My preop showed I was dehydrated and my BP was low. Coping with my Autistic son and life in general has created some coping habits that aren't so healthy. 3 litres of water though, that's a lot. I'm trying the herbal tea route at the moment. Bowels just about returning to normal after surgery. So good to have advice from others who know what works. Better than going to the Gp, although appts are like gold dust. Xxx
