Hi
I am new to the group and was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer in July and I'm due to have a lumpectomy end of this week.
Been a lot to take in and not really sure it's sunk in yet. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't seem important but I'm still trying to decide the type of surgery as I've been given the option of Round Block surgery or Lateral Mammoplasty Surgery. Although more scarring to the side with the lateral option they have said the surgery is easier for them to do which I'm thinking is maybe the way to go
Just wondering what options others have chosen and the results afterwards....welcome any feedback
Thanks
Hi,
I had a round block back in February, had to have re excision due to positive margins. The area I needed removing was quite large, so they’ve repositioned some of the breast tissue so I don’t have a dent. Mine is in the upper inner quadrant of the right breast.
The round block was a really neat excision all round the areola, the re excision equally neat but didn’t have to go all round. They use super glue only and the scar healed really well.
I was interested in therapeutic mammoplasty, but it would have made by right breast much higher than the left. I’m unable to have matching surgery on the left due to previous radiotherapy.
I am not sure if this helps, but shout away if you’ve got any questions?
Good luck with your surgery. Xx
Hi, I had therapeutic mammoplasty four weeks ago, it was round the block, so a scar around the areola. Its still healing and Ive still got some glue around the wound. The area that they've taken out is still sore but Im getting there. Im very pleased with the results, no huge difference in size yet, but I get the results from pathology on Thursday so don't know if Ive got to have more taken out for clear margins or even the possibility of radiotherapy. This may effect the size long term, but at the moment Im happy with the outcome.
Hi, that's good to hear all went well and you are pleased how it all went. Fingers crossed all goes well with your results on Thursday. I ended up going with the round block and all went well. Not in as much pain as I thought so far, bit tender. I have to wait about 3 weeks for my results
