I was diagnosed with breast cancer last month and had a lumpectomy and axillary clearance 2 weeks ago. Waiting to see the consultant for my follow up and to find out when I start chemo. The op was fine but completely under-estimated the impact of the lymph node clearance and the fluid building up in my armpit. To be honest, I’m still trying to get my head around it all and I am terrified about chemo but it’s got to be done! Xxx

Hi. I had my op last Wednesday lumpectomy and node clearance. I’m like you I underestimated the fluid. It’s strange to have the drain and just feels scary. I have had 6 rounds of chemo it is scary but you will be ok. There is a lot of the time when you feel fairly normal and be able to get out and meet your friends. Just be gentle for a few days after. Xx

  • Hi Julie, thank you for your kind words. I hope you have had your drain removed now and you are recovering after your surgery. Try a small cushion under your arm, I’ve grown quite attached to mine, it makes it more comfortable.   I am meeting my oncologist tomorrow to confirm chemo plan but it’s good to hear there will be fairly normal days too. Good luck. Xx
