Pandemic or not?

Hi I've newly joined but wondered if anyone could shed any light on something for me. I had a radical mastectomy 11 years ago now at 31. Still on tamoxifen now despite it initially being prescribed for 5 years. But that's all irrelevant I suppose. I haven't been seen by my breast care team for 2 years now and wondered if that my annual checks stopped at 10 years and just nobody told me or if this is a Pandemic related issue. Recently moved and my new GP has had me on hold numerous times for over 2 hours without being able to speak to anyone, so thought I'd ask the people who know best here. :)

  • I had lumpectomy and radiotherapy.  I was under their care for 5 years then signed off.  I'm back in routine 3 yearly mammogram programme for over 50s.   You don't have this safe yet though.  At my recent screening last month told although I'm officially signed off if I have any concerns to ring the Breast care unit direct, no need to go via my GP, as I will be seen.  They offer this to all patients previously treated for BC in my Health authority (I'm in Wales).

if I was you as you are still in tamoxifen ring your breast care unit and tell them still on active treatment, at 42 too young for regular screening and not had mammogram or check up for 2 years.

  • Are you able to contact the hospital directly? They may be in a better position to answer that than the GP, especially a new one.

The health services did change the way the work in response to the pandemic, but it varies and not all NHS trusts work the same, so me telling you how it is in my area may be completely irrelevent to how it works in yours. The best people to give definite and applicable answers would be the breast cancer team.
