Any recommendations for how to prevent skin irritation from radiotherapy?Going to start next week after mastectomy.
I used the flamogel given to me by the hospital, I ended up with 2 tubes. I used it religiously 3 times per day, and I am now almost finished my 2nd tube of organic aloe vera gel too (about £5 per tube from ebay) and have another one ready to use. I am using it twice per day now and am 4.5 weeks after the end of my 5 sessions of RT. I have also avoided getting sun on the area and used high factor sun cream when outside. All has been well.
Mild steroid creams are the best.Need prescription and to ensure they don’t contain zinc.Same as treating sunburn.
Skin irritation is inevitable sadly.
I was advised to use Aveeno, unperfumed, it helped with the irritation and I also had cracking on the skin around the nipple after my radiation and it really helped clear it up. I used it after showering and when the ski felt irritated. Aloe Vera gel also works well.
Hi
i used flamigel 3 times daily for a month, then aveeno. Also let the air get to the treated area. I was slightly pink after 3 sessions but flamigel stopped any soreness, cracking etc.
Can you please tell me the names of the creams?
Thanks
Benovate is the steroid cream the moisturer one is zero base emollient. Both were given to me at first radiotherapy session by the nurse
