Hi Emzen, me too, today is day 2 following first chemo on Tuesday at The Christie.  How are you doing?  I am dealing with sleeplessness by watching the Ashes.

  • Hi  Loveky to meet you, sorry that we meet here but I have met so many fantastic people on this site that it’s been much more of a positive supporting place and very safe! It’s good to know that you can just talk without worrying  about feelings or the impact on others.
I too was HER2+ just finished my chemo and had surgery and will have radiotherapy in the new year. Chemo wasn’t as bad as I thought, I worked (partly) throughout but listened to my body. I slept a lot! I found the first session really tough but I think that was about not really understanding how it would impact me.
Take it easy, listen to your body and remember it’s your cancer and we are all different in how we react and deal with the disease and treatment. I got 2 great pieces of advice at the start from my Drs and I tried to always keep them in my mind; 1) CHEMO is my friend 2) Look after myself (be kind, eat, sleep, meditate, dance, cry, walk, whatever is your thing) and let the care team deal with the disease. Third bit of advice that I got from this group was avoid Dr Google - he really isn’t qualified

Look after yourself and you will have plenty of support from this group. Always someone available to talk and I have always found someone who has had the sake or similar issue as I had, I h go like this very comforting.

Wishing you well with chemo xx

Hi Rumple01, thanks for the reply, yes I agree could think of many better places to h  ave met but great that we have the opportunity to now even in these awful circumstances. So pleased to hear you are so far along with your treatment and very encouraging to hear your chemo was not as bad as you had thought it would be, I was hoping to be able to work some of the time through this too and this has given me some hope it will still be possible Grin Thanks for the great advice regarding listening to your body and going with the flow. The worst part is the unknown and how it is going to affect you both mentally & physically and this is just the taster session.     Seem to have nothing but a diary full of hospital appointments now but know that I have fantasy support from my loving family & so many of my work colleagues as well, in fact it’s been fairly overwhelming really!! Will definitely be using this forum as much as I need to and vent when necessary. Wishing you all the best of luck with your continuing treatment and here’s to a complete recovery for you Heart take care xx

Hi Crawfish, day 3 for me (Tuesday too) and the worse thing so far for me is the relentless thirst, sporadic tiredness and stomach upset. Treatment went well (The Headland) and the nursing staff were fantastic, was just a long haul 6 hour with obs. Next should be quicker (half time). Funny how it affects us all in a different ways. Feeling very optimistic and know I am in excellent hands which always helps. Hope you have a good support network your end to help you through it all too? Working my way through various movies that I had recorded and never got the chance to watch, ordering Xmas pressies on-line and trying to make conscious effort of getting up and about on a regular basis. Wishing you all the best for your journey going forwards and I hope things go well for you and keep in touch Grin X
