Hi all!

I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago , due to have chemo on Friday - got a cancellation. I have a 21mm tumour ( according to MRI scan) so have had a magnet guide inserted in my left breast

They  are hoping to shrink it before surgery ,

it wasn’t a routine mammogram . In the past I’ve had them followed by ultrasounds as was told previously I had dense tissue

this time I went cos I had pain, neither I nor my nurse breast specialist could feel the lump . Now I think I can feel the lump or marker . It was initially put at 16mm by mammogram

I’m divorced , and my children at uni and just finished over 3 or 4 hours away . No family here do am relying on good friends, always harder I imagine if you are an empty ( divorced) nester

  • Sorry to hear about your diagnosis,it’s a massive shock. I hope you have lots of good friends around you for support. I’ve had breast cancer twice, once when I was married, and again now I’m divorced, there are pros and cons to both!! Rofl my ex husband is very selfish so I didn’t get a huge amount of support from him and people keep away because they think you are supported, now I’m on my own with a 12 year old it has left they way clear for friends to step in and they’ve been a far greater support tbh! I hope you have the same experience xx

  • That’s a good way to look at it, yes maybe more support offered as I’m single .

Difficult for your 12 year old I reckon

  • It has been very hard for her, she’s been amazing but she is only 12, we’ve utilised some dark humour to get through and as I say we’ve been very lucky with the support we’ve had xx

Hi both, I am newly diagnosed too, HER2 positive and day 2 following first chemo on Tuesday at the Christie.  Husband is being amazing, and I have 2 boys aged 6 and 10 who are so far taking it in their stride.

  • Yes the Christie is great

my late dad had treatment there 40 years ago , sadly cancer treatment was not what it is now

I’m waiting for treatment at NNUH in Norfolk

start tomorrow, a bit scary on my own , my kids live 4 hours away at uni and new job

I have a friend coming to stay day 2 For a few days

    • Hi - had my first treatment at NNUH yesterday - they are amazing, kind & professional. I was only recently diagnosed too so a shock - pleased to have started now. Relax before you go in - you will be fine.
  • Wow so nice to hear ( not that you’re having chemo) but it went well and your first one is over

I wish it was Saturday already

yes a big shock I agree

  • I was very nervous before hand - but it really was fine - good luck and keep in touch
