Hi, I was diagnosed with LCIS with florid changes in July I had 3 biopsys and an MRI there was still no signs of cancer, in october I  had a diagnostic excision of the right posterior upper quadrant with removal of adjacent markers.

I have now been diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer.

So on the 4th of January i'm having a right breast mastectomy with reconstructive surgery,

I am in utter shock and very up and down, but yesterday I think it finally hit me I have cancer, and I don't know what to do

  • . Hello and welcome.  That must have been a shock for you.  Hearing the word cancer is scary and suddenly its everywhere.  Every TV /Radio advert, internet Ads etc.  it takes time for it to sink in and  you will have post days and melt downs but breast cancer is very treatable so you not checking out.  Just think by January 3rd you'll be cancer free.  Have you told family /friends.  Remember it's not your job to make them feel better about your diagnosis so if you get the silly don't know what to say comments of "oh you look well" etc. just laugh and thanks but inside my head feels like a washing machine on max spin.

We have an awake thread for those who can't sleep or just want to chat .  Just reply to last post and say hi.  This forum is a safe space and there's no silly questions.  We all understand how you are feeling .

    Awake thread

Have a nose on other threads too Breast cancer forum

Thank you so much,  and yes everything seems heightened even down to life insurance and funeral ads, I have an excellent support network with my family and friends, I do tell people and I have had a few of those 'oh bless you' looks but thats fine, I am finding it difficult to hold down 2 jobs and not burst out crying every 5 minutes, I have so many different appointments coming up and a sentinel node biopsy in a couple of weeks think my head might explode

  • Hi Klak

Welcome and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Try to take each day as it comes and do the things that you love doing to help take your mind off things. Breast cancer is very treatable these days.

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer last year and after having chemo, surgery and radiotherapy I am now cancer free.

Wishing you the best of luck with your surgery next month.

    Best wishes

  • I honestly don’t know how people cope with work. I haven’t been able to work since I was diagnosed in July and left a half written dissertation abandoned. I have a brain made of feathers and haven’t felt able to cope with anything. That said, I’ve had a lot of surgery and am finally on the home run (just radiotherapy and medication to go). Don’t underestimate what a huge big deal this is - it’s ok to be upset, scared, fed up etc. Having cancer can feel like a full time job but just get through it however you can. People are here for you.
