I had 3 cycles of EC which helped in shrinking my 3 tumors in breast. Now im having second cycle of Docetaxel and targeted therapy but I feel like breast and armpit lymph nodes are getting very tender and grew in size. Is it possible for her2 positive cancer progress while you are on targeted therapy?  Has anyone experienced or heard  anything like that? Can i be so unlucky

  • Hi

Sorry you are having such worrying time.

I would suggest to put this question to your onco or onco nurse. Is there a helpline u can ring? Or else as the Macmillan experts??

I am also responding in the hope that your question gets bumped up to the top of list.

Sorry this isn't helpful. All the best

    Cx

  • Hi ZSM I had EC followed by Docetaxel and targeted therapy, the Docetaxel is chemo not targeted therapy but both should stop any cancer growing so you should talk to the medics about this, either your oncologist or McMillan nurses should be able to answer your questions.  Fingers crossed for you, let us know, love from Ann

  • I agree with everyone this isn’t a question we can answer so you need to ask your team. What I can mention is that lymph nodes can become enlarged and painful as a normal part of their function as part of the immune system. For instance if you have a viral infection like a cold, or allergies, so is not necessarily sinister. In fact I was advised to delay my Covid booster as I’ve recently had lymph node surgery and they can swell as they respond to the Covid vaccine - which could put pressure on my wound site. I don’t know why your lymph nodes have swollen so you’ll need to check, but it could be completely innocent

Thank you everyone for your reply.

I have so many doubts. I just take paracetamol and try to ignore it till Monday. Otherwise I will drive myself crazy.

Big hugs to you all xxx

My BC nurse said I have to wait till next Monday before I can see my oncologist. Is it normal for cancer patient to wait for another week when she thinks cancer is improving while on chemo? Im taking my mother in law’s codeine to handle the pain in my lymph nodes.

  • My uncle used to say of the NHS "everything takes 2 weeks" and he's not wrong. Good news is, they'd have you in like a shot if it was an emergency. Sorry you're so uncomfortable at the moment. Lymph nodes can hurt like heck - so many nerves around them, I suppose
