Hi all

its been a while since I was on here but have no idea where else to ask - Dr Google had failed!

I had her2+ breast cancer estrogen negative. I had 3 Fec then 9 pacletaxel treatments followed by herceptin and mastectomy. Treatment started Sept 2016. So I was almost feeling back to normal,  fitness levels had returned and am going thru a fabulous (not) menopause….

My query regards Covid booster and menopause symptoms…

Has anyone else found their hot flushes increase dramatically each time they get their Covid jab… I really can’t stand it. Not sure where to ask for advice but my fatigue levels are almost back to chemo levels -zero energy just want to cry. Anyone know of a ‘hormone’gynae person who will look at my history re hrt… I usually do a ridiculous amount of exercise (it used to help keep flushes to a minimum), I avoid sugar & alcohol as they immediately cause a flush spike …. I also sleep with a cool pad (usually meant for pets) that I fling across myself thru the night

Are we allowed to eat estrogen boosting foods or should these be avoided as the worry with hrt is the estrogen/BC link….

I’m on a low level if citalopram and antihistamine taken daily

I hope I’m not sounding like a moaner - I’m usually a very positive person but I am now beginning to feel beaten …

thanks in advance

  • Hi Tratatoria, this sounds like something that needs to be answered on case merits rather than in general. Are you still in touch with the oncology team or know how to reach them? It may be worth asking medical oncology to review your records so they can advise on the oestrogen boosting foods, and possibly come up with some answers or pointers as to why a Covid booster would make you feel as it does. If you are no longer in contact with them or don't know how to reach them, possibly your GP could help, with or without their involvement? Other than that, a Macmillan nurse could be a good place to start, she would either have some answers or be able to tell you where to find reliable answers even if they are not case-specific.
