Hi everyone I am new here. I have been diagnosed last week with breast cancer. I find it better to talk about to people so that is one reason why I thought I would join this forum. I have today been to the hospital for a breathing test yo make sure I am fit enough to have my mastectomy on 2nd December. I am loosing the right breast. The surgeon doesn't know if I have to have chemo or not. I wont be having radiotherapy as I had it before as I had Hodgkins Disease in my twentys (cancer of the glands) and I had radiotherapy then so I cant have it again. I beat it 50 years ago and I will do it again. Still freightening though.
Hi dear
I am sorry you found yourself here. I was in bits post diagnosis but you seem to be holding up OK? Let us know how you feel about it all if you so wish? The ladies here are so supportive and we hope you can lean on us if needed. It will be normal to feel nervous in run up to 2 Dec. I did tell myself the calmer you are the better the healing will be. So I just went with the flow. Night before op I had only 2 hours sleep (Duh!) however was really calm during the wait for op (12 hours fasting wait wasn't so pleasant). Trust in the medical team and they have done so many similar procedures like such...although it's our first time!!
I am one week post mastectomy also on the right side. Now recovering before treatment next.
(((Big hugs)))

Sorry you find yourself here again, my sister had Hodgkin’s 20 years or so ago so I understand a bit of what you’ve been through and I’m sad for you, you’ve now got breast cancer. Hopefully when they’ve seen the results of the surgery and histology you won’t have to do chemo again. What I can tell you is the chemo is different from even 20 years ago and a different regime also please don’t think you could be facing a carbon copy repeat. All the very best to you xx
I was diagnosed last Tuesday as well. I have to have a CT scan next week before my op to make sure it hasn't spread. Fortunately I have a very loving husband who is an amazing support x
Sorry about your diagnosis too
Life really throws you such awful surprises! I got told off by my surgeon ...don't be scared. Its not good use of your energy make better use of it!
You and Roders will be having up and down days but once your on the journey you will then feel a bit better in yourself.
Now you will have so many appointments in the meantime and a lot of info thrown at you whole new jargon to get your head around!
