I am new to this group. I had DCIS 4 years ago which the surgeon said would not come back after lumpectomy and radiotherapy. This April it returned over a larger area and I have now had a mastectomy and reconstruction. The results show the cancer was HER2 negative and that it was all removed. There was no spread to the lymph nodes. However I was advised to have chemotherapy which I decided to do and had my first dose 2 weeks ago. So far I have not had any major side effects but as expected my hair has started to come out which I have found distressing even though I planned for it. I have my 2nd chemo this Friday and have decided to have my hair cut off on Saturday before it starts getting worse. I feel angry about everything that has happened and did not expect to go through this ‘adjuvunct’ chemo as it was not discussed with me earlier on as a possibility. Therefore it came as a huge shock when my results came through which took a long time after the surgery. Now I have found out that the plan after the first 4 chemo sessions over 12 weeks is to increase them to weekly for the 2nd 12 weeks. This is a bit scary and I don’t know what to expect when this happens.
Meantime if I can help anyone who is going to have a mastectomy / Diep flap reconstruction I will be happy to do so.
Don’t worry you will be able to use your hands to do up the hooks and use knife and fork etc and drink although not lift your arms up higher than your bust until you have done at least 2 weeks exercises or lift anything heavy until the physio signs you off to do so. X
Hi ladies. The TU RANGE from Sains is also OK, not expensive, it's called the Seamless stretch crop top. They are very comfy and I took L as I am normally M and they were front zipped. I think whatever suits its not a problem how its fastened just its in the front.
Somehow I have had good experience post op and am driving a week after. I guess each to their own as long as you feel confident and the GA has worn off. This is not to supercede expert advise but each person's healing time is very individual experience. Importantly, you need to rest and listen to your body. Eat right and drink plenty of fluids. The plaster holds everything in place, although numbness and swelling to be expected, this can go on for some time. My drains came off the next day before I was discharged from hospital but I can now feel the fluid moving around inside and dispersing itself. I find the wound is itching at intervals hoping that is a good sign. I go back to surgeon this Friday for results and check.

Thanks again. Hope you’re still recovering well, Mickey xx
Thank you C, that really was useful, I would prefer front zips to hook and eyes If I can do that - Mickey x
Will do, I’ve got an appointment with the plastics BCN tomorrow. Glad you’re recovery going well Mickey xx
I bought a couple online and then the two from Sains and brought one each in for the BCN to see if those would be OK during one of our appointments. Keep the receipts if you need to return. The zips don't dig in which was a relief as I thought it might do. But make sure you get the right size factoring in swelling after surgery.

Queen Poppy,I understand what your saying, I hope everything goes well this time. My results came back and BCN phoned on Thursday to tell me, I have appointment on Monday with my surgeon to go over them, she said she couldn't go into a lot of detail but according to result I'll have to have chemo. I'll find out more on Monday. X
Thank you, really appreciate you coming back to me. I have now had my CT scan yesterday as luck would have it, as I was there to see my BCN they says they’d do it there and then. I also now have a provisional date if 14/12 - fingers crossed for me.
thanks again Mickey x
