I posted about my 2 cm lump a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had my mammogram, US and biopsy today and have been told I will have an appointment with the surgeon a week today.
The lump measured 11-14mm, so I guess that’s good? Does that mean it’s likely to be a lumpectomy and radiotherapy? Or are there other factors?
Hi Yorkshirelass9 have you been told it's definitely cancer? In my case the purpose of the biopsy was to determine whether the area in question was benign or cancerous. Biopsy results are also used to help your surgeon determine what your treatment plan will be.
I got my biopsy results in two stages as not all the results arrived at the same time. The first results that came in (after 1 week) confirmed that it was cancerous and not benign and the second set of results (about 2 weeks after biopsy) told us that my cancer was hormone receptive. At that point my surgeon was able to make the decision that I could have a lumpectomy (area was just over 2cm large), radiotherapy and then tablets for 5 years to block the hormones the cancer was feeding on.
With a lump that is under 2cm hopefully it will be a lumpectomy for you too.
Wishing you all the best especially during this stressful waiting period.
From one Yorkshire lass to another lol.I had invasive Ductal carsinoma,my lump measured similar to yours,I had a lumpectomy now waiting to start Radiotherapy, have been put on hormone tablets for 5years,no chemo. At my post op appointment was told the lump was smaller than thought, and measured 10mm,didn’t quiet understand it as MRI results said 14mm ,I was classed as stage1,sounds you are the same so very lucky,I still had some lymph nodes taken out, which were clear.Good luck x
GodWilling Thank you. The consultant who did the biopsy told me it was to determine if cancerous or not, although they did stress that it was a solid mass. I then had a phone call from the nurse consultant who said they think it’s cancer and that because of that I will get an appointment with the surgeon in a week. So quite confused to be honest. But I’m trying to prepare for next week as best I can. Thank you for telling me what happened in your case. I went with a list of questions today, but think these are more relevant for next week.
@gotchya It’s good to meet another Yorkshire lass here . And good to read your treatment story. Thank you. How long was your wait from seeing the team to surgery?
Was for regular mammogram 11th June.Called back to hospital 21st June, has ultra sound on boob, and a biopsy and a marker put in plus another mammogram 7th July saw surgeon told ,e had breast cancer and type.Sent for MRI on the 19th July, got results on 28th July,Aug 9th had pre opp tests,ie blood test, night and weight and blood pressure, nothing major the my opp was 19th Aug.The whole thing from start to where I am now was absolutely fine, they then leave you for about 6 weeks to heal,I saw Oncologist 2weeks ago and got marked up for radiotherapy,so just waiting now, this part is always the worst for some, but I am quite chilled about it,no other way to be really as nothing we can do,so just keep moving forward and take each step as it comes,Don,t even think in advance if you can, just absorb the info on this site of your up coming procedure, once that is over with you can move to the next procedure, one step at a time I say.
whats the name of the hospital your going too?Let us know how you are getting on ,but fill your boots on this site,so informative xx
Hope my schedule helps.lol.
I'm sure it's good that it's so small! From your biopsies they'll probably be able to tell you whether it's growing slowly or not and whether hormones, HER2 etc are involved - all the different things they look for will determine your treatment programme. Like many other people here I found the waiting bit the most difficult time (my mind went into overdrive); once I had this information & I knew what was going to happen, everything was much easier. Hope this is the same for you x
