Seroma

I had my check up today, nearly 2 weeks post mastectomy.  Breast nurse said I have a small seroma that may need draining if gets bigger.  Does anyone know if there is anything I could do myself to try and improve it?

  • Hi. I had a seroma and had it drained 5 times. If small the body can get rid of the fluid but if big best to get it drained. As chest is numb after op it doesn’t hurt and gives relief afterwards. It’s very common. It’s your body producing healing fluid   I wasn’t told of anything I could do. I did ask.

  • Thanks, hopefully it will go on its own x

  • Hi I had one under my arm after auxiliary clearance, it was the size of a grapefruit it got very tight and painful, I had it drained 6 times the last being a week ago and it has gone completely now, it really doesn’t hurt to have it drained.

  • Hi, I also asked and was told nothing you can do, but luckily mine went away of it's own accord

  • Mine was drained in a procedure that sounds an awful lot worse than it felt: my surgeon approached me with a big ass syringe to stick in my nipple (which has little feeling but still…). I said “I don’t like the look of that” and he, being a surgeon and therefore excessively literal said “Well don’t look then”. It stung for a second and then my breast felt so much better. I was astounded he’d removed 350ml from under my nipple! No wonder it was sore

  • I had 450ml drained the first time and it gradually got a little less every time until the sixth time and then it was only 4ml it took 3 weeks in all but felt much better after it was drained.

  • It’s really odd when it doesn’t really hurt. I had 920ml drained the first time and boy was the relief good. Apparently I looked like  I’d grown a third boob….
