Hello, it is taking me a bit of time to navigate the site! Anyway, briefly, I had a lumpectomy 4 weeks ago but going back for surgery on Monday as the dcis found has to be removed. Not sure if that is pre or cancerous. I've been told radiotherapy in January and medication for 5 years. Although things may change once I get my BRAC gene test results. At first it took me all my time to stop panicking, but now I'm more calm although have found the process so far very overwhelming. I have good breast care nurses and oncologist at the local breast care unit. Finding chats useful, so thanks.
Hi there, sorry to hear you have to go back for more surgery. The whole thing is quite overwhelming, isn't it? It's a different language, at least for me, as I am not the slightest bit medical, so I often found myself having to ask for simple explanations. Best of luck for your surgery on Monday x
I'm in a similar situation as you, had lumpectomy 2 weeks ago, have to go back on tomorrow to have a cavity shave as they called it to remove precancer cells which were found outside the margins, also waiting on the oncotype test to determine if I need chemo along with radiotherapy and hormone treatment..the BCN are great and you can lift the phone at any time to talk especially if your feeling overwhelmed and anxious..Good luck
Thanks for your thoughts. I agree, a whole new language. All the best to you.
Hi G
You got us here for sure. Take a step at a time otherwise it will be so overwhelming, experiences all will be new and you really feel naturally the steep learning curve.
Count and lean also on medical team. I have a straight talking surgeon and love her for it. No messing about and she set me in good stead and give me confidence when she knows what she is tackling! Your medical team will be invaluable and they want to see you walk out the door well, don't forget this!
All the best, keep talking sweetie, sending you healing vibes and smooth op.
