    Hi Irishgirl16

My surgeon said I have some fluid where I had my lumpectomy two weeks ago. How will I know, if it becomes an issue?

    Thanks.

  • I was told to keep an eye on my temperature as if this goes up that would indicate a problem, orif the skin becomes hotter than normal, as these could indicate an infection that would need treatment.. I'd say that, or just if it becomes really sore and uncomfortable then talk to your medical team.

    Thanks for that information.

  • Seromas are collections of wound healing fluid. They eventually reabsorb most of the time, but in the meantime the pressure can feel uncomfortable or interfere with scar formation, I’m told. I had a seroma under my nipple on my left breast side which was drained - draining it can speed  the healing - but the surgeon said it wasn’t essential to drain it.

  • Glad to hear the advice. My armpit and back of shoulder plus back of arm has swelled post rads. I now have cording too. Got a compression sleeve which is frankly uncomfy and feels like my arm has the life being squeezed out of it. Physio has manipulated armpit and I have to go back next week. Was wondering it if might go by itself or how long x

  • I had drain, but was still collecting over 50ml a day when they removed it 6 days later.  I was told that if there was a swishing sound I should get it drained! If it right it could pull your stitches,  but a lot of surgeons try to avoid drains or remove them after 3-4 days in case of infection.
