Hi I’ve just been told that I’ve got to have chemo I had a lumpectomy which unfortunately didn’t remove enough surrounding tissue so went on to have a mastectomy have now been told that I need chemo for 3 months Unfortunately my husband also has cancer and is undergoing treatment We we’re diagnosed within 10 days of each other So it’s quite tough for us at the moment Can any of you please tell me what to expect when undergoing Chemo I’m aware that I’ll probably loose my hair and won’t feel great Thanks
Hi Zula
Sorry to hear that both you and your husband have been diagnosed with cancer, it must have been a huge shock to you both.
Do you know what chemo drugs you will be getting?
Everybody’s chemo journey is different, some people sail through it and others have a hard time. However while I won’t say chemo is easy it is doable. You will be given medication to help counteract any side effects that you may have. You will also be given a contact number by your chemo nurse so that you can ring your oncology ward if you have any bad side effects. Your medical team will do everything in their power to make sure you stay well during treatment. There is a chemo thread on this forum in which other breast cancer patients give help and advice about chemo which you can tap into if you like.
Wishing you the best of luck with your chemo when it starts and I hope you don’t have too many side effects.
Best wishes

Hi Zula so sorry the hear your news, cancer is never fair but for both of you to be diagnosed is really unkind. Chemo is not as bad as it's press and the type of chemo you get will decide whether you keep your hair or not, I had EC first and knew I was going to loose my hair but it started growing again the minute I changed chemo drugs so when you have your treatment plan the chemo nurses will be able to tell you. Also post on here ansd the other amazing women on here will share theri experiences of that particular drug. It is really scary hearing about the chemo side effect but hang onto the fact that you will not get all the side effects. Love from Ann
Hi, so sorry to hear you and your husband are both going through this, that must be incredibly difficult. We all react differently to chemo, but this blog post of mine has all my hints and tips and you might find it useful. Best of luck x
