I’ve finally got my chemo over and done with and so now ready to embark on a shopping trip to buy …. That ever so important accessory …. My WIG

ive had no luck so far in finding any human wig makers or wig stores in my area for us cancer patients

The few I’ve spoken to are bespoke and are charging prices like £2700!!

mother’s are only online and I don’t want to order heaps of wigs to then need sending back and trips to the post office and postage charges .
I only need a wig til my hair comes back not to come with me through the rest of my life , so I wanted to reach out on here to ask what you are doing about the wig situation ….

pls pls do help me !

im based in Harrow in London

  • Hi Simsm

I live in Scotland and so was fortunate to get a script for a wig on the NHS. I have to say tho that although the wig is nice enough [just like Miss Piggy's hair and so it is named Miss Piggy], she was only outside twice during the time of no hair.

I bought a few casual hats and overall I much preferred some brightly patterned cotton jersey tube-type beanie hats that I got on ebay. They were soft, comfortable and easily washable.

    Good luck

Hi Simsm, I live in Harrow too!

I didn't have chemo so can't help directly, but there was a recent thread on this site called "Help - I need headwear advice" which you might find helpful.

Wishing you all the best x

  • Hi! I am in Taunton and the hospital put me in touch with a lovely local company who make real and synthetic wigs. I bought one at around £200 and it looks very real and lots of people have no clue it¡s not my real hair.  Good luck in finding one that works for you

  • I got my wig from Raoul Wigmakers https://www.raoulwigmakers.co.uk. It was all fine, online choice and fitting, they were fantastic. We get a free wig within a certain price range here, synthetic hair, but my friend paid £270 for hers (from a different place) and I can’t imagine mine was vastly different and probably cheaper. Check to see if you get a voucher towards it or any support, most hospitals do that, ask your BCN. I’m in Bucks and never went there, it was all done remotely but was a good experience x

  • I'm also in Scotland so got a prescription for the wig and although I ordered one online, I never once wore it. I just wore hats and scarves - easier through the winter! It just didn't feel like me.

However, the online shop had tonnes of choice - www.judyplumwigs.co.uk
