Hello everyone
I'm new to Macmillan as I was only diagnosed with breast cancer 3 weeks ago and don't begin chemotherapy until next Thursday. At the moment I've no idea how I'll respond to treatment - the only thing I have been told is that I will lose my hair - which is really hard as its been long for 25+ years. So I'm looking for some advice on the best and most reliable sites to visit to look for some nice head wear.
Nothing too showy for the moment! I not looking for anything that's an attempt to 'hide' what's happening. Just comfy, wearable indoors and out. And maybe looks 'pretty'?!
I've already looked at simply wigs, chemotherapyheadwear and hats4heads. Are these any good?
I'm still struggling to get my head round my diagnosis so any advice you can give would be very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
I got a couple of scarves from chemo headwear and wore them for most medical appointments when I had to go and see anyone. The scarves were good as they are already shaped like that, just a knot to do at the back. I did find them a bit 'I'm going through chemo' though, so for every day wear, walking the dog etc, I just got some normal beanies and hats and ended up wearing them most of the time. Like you, I went through chemo over Autumn / Winter, so easy to wear hats!
Thanks so much - and you're right. I'm 'lucky' it's all kicking off in Autumn/Winter. Hats seem to be everywhere I look at the moment! Thanks again. Xxx
Hi DSummer, welcome and sorry you are here all in one breathe, however this is the right palce for support and advice, I lost my hair in the summer so hats etc were not needed and I didn't use a wig, I did try but dind't like the feel or the look and as I only visited hospitals I didn't b other, if you ask at your hospital they will know the best paces to go locally for either wigs or hats, beannies are also really good. We have all been where you are now and remember how you feel so you are not alone. Love from Ann
Hi Rhiwbina
I'm doing chemo first to hopefully shrink the lump enough for them not to have to do too much reconstruction. 20 weeks of that first. I never imagined it would be so long. Naively I thought bump, op, chemo, done. Who knew? But like you said, it's really good that I'm not having to wait. Sometimes I think that's the hardest bit. I hope your chemo goes OK. Xx
I too am worried about hair loss and am starting chemo soon . Diagnosed 30th September . How quickly does your hair fall out . Does it start after first session . I have ruled out the cold cap as it is going to add 2 hours to an already 5 hour treatment plan xx
Hello , sorry you find yourself here . How you feeling about your treatment plan . I found it really hard to hear I was to have chemo before surgery . Xxx
I think it's two weeks for hair to go . They keep asking me about cold cap and I had come to decision not to use to either . Hope you ok
Take care X
Jayne
How long will your treatment last and how much time does it add . I have been told by lots of people that the cold cap won’t completely stop it falling out . I also think having very thin patchy hair may make me feel worse as my hair is really thick . So I think better off with none at all xx
